Far Cry New Dawn News: Latest installment won't feature any DLC

Recently, Ubisoft released a story trailer for its latest title in the Far Cry series, New Dawn. The upcoming game brings players back to Hope County, Montana, seventeen years after the events of Far Cry 5. This time around, the world is recovering from nuclear fallout, and you must help rebuild the community in Hope County, all the while surviving the threats of the Highwaymen.

New Dawn already ruffled some feathers recently, just like its predecessor. Many felt like Far Cry 5 became a little too political, and with "Space Force" weaponry showing up in Far Cry New Dawn, expect to see certain groups offended before the game is even released.

Ubisoft has done something else with New Dawn, this time opting to leave an often required cash grab behind. The game's creative director, Jean-Sebastien Decant, revealed that it will not have a season pass and will not feature any DLC.

In an interview with Twinfinite, Decant explained his reasoning.

"What is in the box is what players are going to get."

Decant seemed excited about what New Dawn has to offer players, and feels that there's enough to keep them rolling around in Hope County even after the main game is finished.

"We have seven expeditions, each with three levels of difficulty, plus all of Hope COunty and that's all there is to offer in the game. In our eyes, that will keep players busy long after they've finished the story."

While it's definitely odd to see a AAA publisher completely abandon DLC, it's sort of a breath of fresh air. I'm sure we can all remember recent titles that never really felt complete because a company wanted to milk a game for all its worth, taking out huge chunks and marketing them as DLC instead. It's good to know that, with New Dawn, what we see is what we'll get.

Far Cry New Dawn releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows on February 19th, 2019.
