What's the story?

FIFA 18 is all set to hit the stores later this month but fans of the popular console gaming franchise have something new to look forward to today in the form of ratings that EA Sports are going to reveal.

However, before all of that happens, English publication Mirror has released the ratings of three of the top Premier League clubs - Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea - with the help of gamer and programmer Lucas Pezzatti's Twitter.

In case you didn't know...

EA Sports are all set to publish FIFA 18 ratings later today but whether those are player ratings or team ratings remains to be seen. The latest reveal is expected to keep the fans of the newest release on their toes.

The heart of the matter

According to the leaked ratings, Premier League champions Chelsea are the best-rated team among the three, with Manchester City following closely behind. Manchester United fans might not want to hear this but they're rated lower than both Manchester City and Chelsea, despite the Red Devils' show of strength in the transfer window as well as on the pitch this season.

While all three teams are five-star teams, Chelsea's attack rating of 85 outdoes both City's 84 and United's 83. The Blues also enjoy a superior midfield rating 85 over City and United's 84. City are level with Chelsea in the defence rating - 82 for both - while United lag behind slightly with an 81 rating in defence.

It might surprise most fans of EA Sports FIFA that the current United side is rated lower than City and Chelsea, given their current form where they have scored the most number of goals and conceded none in the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

What's next?

FIFA 18 is all set to roll out this month on the 29th. With new features and game modes set to blow our mind away, today's much-anticipated ratings reveal will give more insight into what to expect from the game.

Author's take

While the leaked ratings for the three top Premier League clubs don't really reflect reality, EA Sports' player rating algorithm has always been on the money. This time around, however, a lot of people would argue that Manchester United, despite being a five-star team, had to be rated a bit higher than what we have seen.
