Foamstars is a brand-new 4v4 party shooter for consoles developed by Square Enix. Yes, Foamstars – a foamy run-and-gun shoot-them-up game that will either outperform the Nintendo success or spend its future days in the paint-splattered shadows.
What is Foamstars?
Foamstars is a 4v4 party shooting game developed by Square Enix. Its premise, like Splatoon, will concentrate upon brilliantly coloured fights across numerous foam-soaked settings. As one of the warriors in these fights, you will be entrusted with filling up your foam gun—a weapon that may injure other players and change the terrain—and your trusty surfboard and destroying other players in the most strategic manner conceivable.
What happens in Foamstars?
You'll most likely be disappointed if you're looking for a story-driven experience with warmth, heart, and a wholesome touch. We suspect there will be anything of the such in the new IP, mainly since the entire idea is built on brief bursts of high-octane fighting and various multiplayer-based rounds—none of which appear to link to an overall narrative. But we also can't be sure at this stage.
Foamstars Gameplay
It's a standard 4v4 party shooter at heart, so expect to engage in brief bouts of chaos against other players worldwide. And throughout these rounds, as one of the game's comical heroes, you will have access to an array of foam-themed weapons and powers to destroy your opponents and make it to the conclusion.
Foamstars will also use a construction mechanism from the PlayStation Showcase, allowing you to create foamy fortresses, bridges, and fortifications to help drive away the opposing team.
Is Foamstars still under development by Square Enix?
Square Enix had been working on it before it debuted unexpectedly at the PlayStation showcase. A well-kept secret, but at least it's finally out in the open, ready for a thorough thrashing from Splatoon fans. We shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and while the aesthetics nearly scream Splatoon, it's much too early to predict what the final product will look like - let alone play like.
While we're on the subject, Square Enix has stressed that the in-game video shown during the PlayStation Showcase was subject to modification, so there's still a potential it'll get a complete redesign before it goes online. Again, it's difficult to predict now; the developers may significantly change the first teaser in the following months.
