Frey Holland, the protagonist, is an aimless, gritty, yet street-smart young woman who has persisted despite her difficult upbringing in New York City. And her life hasn't gotten any easier now that she's turning 21. Things take an unexpected turn when she is teleported to Athia, a land where fantasies and nightmares become all too real.
She travels through it using magical powers to survive and find her way home. She'll also have to deal with the Tantas, the deleterious and distorted all-powerful matriarchs who rule over Athia, if she wants to return home.
