FragPunk Closed Alpha test player believes "game is going to be huge," community reacts

FragPunk is an upcoming 5v5 hero-based shooting game, developed by Bad Guitar Studio. Starting on June 27, 2024, the title’s Closed Alpha test has impressed several players with its gameplay and captured the attention of many through its mechanics, creating a buzz on social media.

In a Reddit post, TheSpaceFace showed appreciation by posting:

Further, they mentioned how the game had been designed by taking some elements from popular FPS games like Apex Legends gunplay, Valorant Abilities, CounterStrikes and Valorant’s Bomb Plant System, Borderlands Style Humour, and Shard Card Unique System.

“It is a funny game It feels way more casual than competitive, though they advertise it as such.”

In FragPunk, every hero has unique abilities, and the introduction of Shard Cards alters the battleground environment or boosts damage output making it more casual than competitive as the user mentioned in their post.

A positive response from Polaris022 stated that for them, the title stays in a more casual spot and less of a hardcore tac sim. They added that Counter-Strike and Valorant seem to have all the hardcore players, so they're hopeful this title can fill the role of a more casual game that takes a lot of the stress and toxicity.

Quite a few players also spoke critically of the title. They quoted that the Abilities of the title need a major nerf. If you can rush in site with a bazooka and shoot anywhere near an enemy and succeed, that's an issue, especially if you want to attract a hardcore crowd to distribute this game from the top down.

Moreover, some players personally didn't enjoy the title. According to them, in the main game mode, there is just way too much downtime in between rounds. If you die early in a round, you have to wait 4 to 5 minutes to play more (wait for the round to finish, select new characters, select new cards, wait for a new round to start, etc.). This makes the title more complicated.

The title has a huge potential but does need some fixing. The running feels useless, as it's so slow. The time in between rounds is very long. Moreover, it would be cool if the Shard Card intertwined a tiny bit more.
