What is Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2
Frostbreaking is a game mechanic in which you spend resources to break the Frost in an area to make it habitable. This allows you to use the land and place Districts on it.
You can also use this method to extract resources, grow food, mine resources, and essentially sustain your City. However, you must be strategic in its use as you only get eight tiles per Frostbreak. Choose the area you wish to expand wisely before you begin Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2.

How to use Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2
You can begin Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2 by using the button on the bottom-right corner of your screen. Before that, remember to have 200 Workforce and 30 Heatstamps at hand.
Once you are ready, click the button and select eight tiles on the map you wish to Frostbreak. Available tiles will have a black marker and after selecting the eighth tile, click the check mark to confirm and begin the process.
However, you must note that only the 200 Workforce will be returned to you upon completion. The 30 Heatstamps are essentially the cost for Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2.

Tips for Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2
Frostbreaking is an important game mechanic that you must use judiciously. If you only need a certain number of tiles to open up a District or Hub, then you should spend the rest of the tiles in expanding the area around that particular District. This will come in handy later when you wish to place additional Buildings in your District and need free tiles.
Moreover, make sure you have enough Workforce and Heatstamps to spare before you undertake a Frostbreaking since it is recommended to stabilize your City before you plan on expanding or placing new Districts.

There are two types of Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2
Frostpunk 2 offers you two options of Frostbreaking when you proceed further into the game. You have the choice between Rapid Frostbreaking and Safe Frostbreaking.
As the name suggests, Safe Frostbreaking provides a safer method but takes up more time and Workforce to complete. It is a safe and sure way of ensuring your success without any harm to your Workforce.
Meanwhile, Rapid Frostbreaking is faster, but you might lose some of the Workforce to accidents and geographical effects. Although it requires fewer resources, the cost is ultimately higher since you have to compensate for the lost Workforce.

Should you use Rapid Frostbreaking or Safe Frostbreaking in Frostpunk 2
If you do not have enough Workforce to spare and need an area to be cleared instantly, use Rapid Frostbreaking to get your job done. However, if you have an abundance of Workforce and a flourishing population, you can choose to splurge on Safe Frostbreaking.
Remember, your goal is to ensure that the five major Problems of the City are alleviated and there isn't a scarcity of any Material. So, if you feel that Frostbreaking and placing a certain District or Building is crucial to your survival, go right ahead and sacrifice a few of the Workforce for the greater good.
