Mass Effect 3 was one of the games whose gross sales were very high. The game gave us freedom to have our own conclusions and in turn, ended up having an ambiguous ending to the game.

Shepherd’s demise was a sad one and everything that followed that, was up to us. After Shepherd’s final choice, it gave the gamers/players very little insight about the life after the Reaper’s attacks. Though most felt that the characters were tied up with their own problems, the game as it was, was pretty short and the ending not quite expected.

#9 Ghostbusters

This one’s a classic and probably will remain one too, other than the horrible ending to the game. You’re taken into an anti-climactic scene where your teams climb the staircase of Gozer’s tower. It’s a pain battling enemies floor by floor and when you reach the top you reach the boss battle which just drags on and on and on. Once Gozer is defeated, you’d look for something really exciting but hopelessly, the game puts all your expectations down the drain by showing you this:

This is just gruesome and cruel.

#8 Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy

Most disappointing game endings

This game makes The Hulk as some art. The game received special mentions and also got good ratings, but the game’s ending was an utter flop because the game’s ending was just bogus and off-track. The protagonist just somehow happens to remember whatever he had forgotten. Using some psychic powers or something, he gets everything back to his head and just blows away choppers.

You must be thinking what happens next- well, actually nothing! The game ends there with a ‘To be continued’ sign and there’s no sequel made to that yet.

#7 Crysis

We all know that CRYTEK has always produced amazing games and Crysis was one of the best. Though the gameplay was really good and everything, the true essence of the game always depends on the Climax and of course, the ending. Moreover, the ending of a game is the difficult to write and some games don’t fair so well.

Crysis was such a game. Just after you believe that you have killed the boss, it so happens that you were sadly mistaken and he’s still alive in the energy circle. So the chopper you’re in turns back and Nomad says,”We have to go back” and the screen fades into darkness. It really feels like an abrupt ending.

#6 Rage

The follow-up of the Doom series in the FPS genre is Rage. It runs on the same engine as that of the Doom series. Everything except the ending of the game is very commendable. The gameplay and the controls were really impressive which was surprising enough and the gameplay goes on as you, releasing the greatest evil army and when you realise that and want to undo what you did and gear up for the battle- The game ends ! Unbelievable. The most important part just vanishes in the air.

#5 Aliens: Colonial Marines

The game makes its way into the 10 most disappointing endings as well as one of the most disappointing games. The storyline is completely sadistic and woeful. The whole campaign has a lot of glitches and things that are completely absurd.

Coming to the ending or the climax- fight with the queen alien, it’s more of a stealth gameplay rather than a proper boss fight. You come face to face with a character named Weyland who is also an Android and he says, “I’ve downloaded everything.” That’s the end! No reference to anything whatsoever.

#4 Shenmue 2

If you are a gamer, you’d be tired of hearing the name of Shenmue 2 as it was one of the most expensive productions with a gross amount of US$70 million, and the sequel followed suit. Shenmue 2 is a game of revenge. Ryo Hazuki who is in search of the murderer of his father and is lost in the idea of vengeance.

But the whole storyline goes through a phase of rare fights and more of making enough money for his living. The game progresses as a man in a lost rainforest- you are completely lost and the worst part is you are nowhere nearly close to finding your father’s murderer. It’s a very disappointing game.

#3 Alan Wake

Most disappointing game endings

The Finnish games studio Remedy Entertainment, after the relinquishment of the Rockstar series games, Max Payne proved that they are good at releasing games by releasing Alan Wake. It bagged a lot of good reviews but simultaneously it had something the critics had to disagree upon. Alan Wake is a horror based genre where you play as Stephen King.

Writing a sequence to a horror story has always been a tough job for everyone and especially when it comes to game endings. The game shows the protagonist jumping into the water and in the end, finding a typewriter which types out- its’s an ocean and that's the end of it! No conclusion. This is why it’s present on this list.

#2 Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman Arkham Asylum was definitely the Batman game we all had been waiting for because all the previous versions of Batman weren’t even close to impressing us. Arkham Asylum had a different story to tell. Including a brilliant gameplay and graphics, this was the best game.

When we reach the end of the game, we expect some plot twists and some traps since the final boss to beat is Joker. And knowing how sly Joker gets, we expected something like that. However, Joker getting steroids and becoming humungous and sending only his minions to do the job for him is something clearly unacceptable. As Batman fans, the climax was boring and completely out of the blue.

#1 Ghosts \'n Goblins

One of the games which has a bizzare ending to it. The end of the game is where you finally, after long hours of playing, reach the Final Boss. You are greeted by mere words which are, “This room is an illusion and a trap devised by Satan! Go ahead dauntlessly. Make rapid progress.”

To make this so called progress, you have to play the game again! This game is just cruel.
