The majority of Video games are played by adults. Some of the largest titles make more money than Hollywood films could only dream of. The biggest corporations in the industry run multibillion-dollar multinational operations that employ millions of people. While some consumers still think of gaming as a kid’s thing and of lesser merit as compared to movies, the new generations of tech users have moved on and made gaming a 25 Billion Dollar industry. This is well known by producers from film industries around the world and why wouldn’t they want to cash in on their already popular movie titles, especially when it is already tested and proven to be a good business option. Every year sees the release of game version of several high budgeted movies made. The user loves to re-live the moments of his/her favorite movies, and what can be better than to actually play the role yourself. The following lists some of the movies which would make good video games in my opinion.
#1 Ip Man (2010)

The Movie: This Hong Kong martial arts flick tells the tale of Bruce Lee’s mentor, who taught him how to kick ass. Based on the brave events of an aloof grandmaster that rises to action when the Japanese invade the Chinese mainland in the 1930s, Ip Man is a mixed bag of good acting and great action.
The Game: A kung-fu brawler against the guy who created the Wing Chun style of fighting makes up for a hit RPG action game. It doesn’t just have to be mindless kicking and fighting, instead the storyline could revolve around the setting of the Sino-Japanese War. The game could be an informative, playable history lesson or just a thrilling action packed treat for hand to hand combat gaming fans.
#2 Kill Bill (2003-2004)
The Movie: Quentin Tarantino’s two-part opus casts Uma Thurman as a former assassin who seeks revenge on her former lover/ boss, after he shoots her in the head and puts her in a coma. In this movie, Tarantino throws in tons of pulpy references to sexploitation and while this flick features crazed kung-fu action adapted from the ’60s and ’70s, “Kill Bill” is at its core, is a movie about maternal instinct and philosophical differences played out through violence.
The Game: The dual-part movie has been created in the ideal structure of a video game. Each one of the ‘Bride’s’ (Uma Thurman’s) former compatriots marks separate levels as they come in as level bosses.
But, rather than duplicating the movie plot, this game should use the Bride’s backstory as sword-for-hire, which surely makes for lots of razor-sharp action and stylized dismemberment. All the swordplay and gun-shooting could be interspersed with a plot that sheds more light on the life of the Bride. If It doesn’t happen, you can always play: “Shank” which is similar to the theme I had in mind for this one.
#3 The Purge (2013)
The Movie: Based on possibilities of the future, an influential and wealthy family is held hostage for harboring the targets of a murderous syndicate during ‘The Purge’, a 12-hour period during which which all crime is legalized.
The Game: Just as Call of Duty and Counter Strike, this game should be based on home invasion on a multiplayer platform, where one team is tasked with invading a heavily equipped and fortified house and while the other team defends against the invaders. And to keep things from growing tedious, there would be numerous houses/ maps that could range across your average apartments to a multi-stored villa.
#4 Oldboy (2003)
The Movie: A Korean businessman named Oh Dae-Su is held captive in a hotel room without explanation for 15 years. When he gets freed, Dae-su finds out that his captors continue to monitor his every move. Enraged and curious, he begins a quest for answers and revenge. Dae-su refuses to stop his pursuit for knowledge and blood, pushing his luck despite every step clearly taking him closer to a tragic conclusion.
The Game: The future makers of this game could decide to create something similar to “Heavy Rain” which plays on mystery, blurring the lines between a video game and a cinema. This story, experienced through multiple characters, tracks the serial murders and brings us closer to revealing the truth. A couple hours in and you’ll really be thrilled by Dae-su’s 15-year lockdown
#5 Taken (2008)
The Movie: Played by an ageing action star Liam Neeson; A retired CIA agent who travels across Europe and fights his way across to save his estranged daughter from the hands of a human trafficking gang who has kidnapped her while on a trip to Paris.
The Game: Like any other ‘Man on a Mission’ game, this one needs to be a cross between something like a third person shooter like Max-Payne and a role playing Assassin’s Creed. This one should be totally loaded with lots of good action, progressive gameplay, great storyline and it also has an immense scope in creating a regal European theme.
#6 Gangs of Wasseypur (2012)
The Movie: Set towards the end of colonial rule, based in and around Dhanbad, Bihar. Gangs of Wasseypur is an adaptation of the historical records of the fierce Coal Mafia during the initiation of sovereignty in India. This film opens up with Sahid Khan (a Pathan) as the central character who gets into conflict with the Quereshi dacoit chief Sultan and is forced to leave Wasseypur.
He finds a job in the coal mines owned by Ramadhir Singh and later joins him as one of his henchmen. A conflict of interests arise between them which results in Sahid Khan being killed and unfolds a saga of power games spanning over three generations. Sardar Khan, the son of the late Sahid Khan emerges as the protagonist who vows to avenge his father’s death, becoming the most feared man of Wasseypur.
The Game: Can be made similar to the role playing action/ adventure games of the successful franchise; the GTA series. This game could encompass the life and objectives of Sardar Khan, who makes friends and accepts missions in order to gather enough power in taking down his arch nemesis; Ramadhir Singh. A sure hit for gang war based game lovers.
#7 The Longest Yard (2005)
The Movie: A sadistic prison warden asks (Adam Sandler), a former pro quarterback now serving time in prison, to put together a team of inmates and take on the prison guard.Prison inmates form a football team, practice and get ready to challenge the prison guards. This turns out to be a heck of a match-up. Played mostly by WWE superstars, this movie is full of action, entertainment and comedy till the finish line and has a potential of becoming a great video game.
The Game: This game could be a combination of action, role playing tasks and field football, progressing as a narrated storyline and playable in multiple characters. The experience of living the episodes of a prison life while staying focused on passionate sport could make a great hit amongst gamers. I for one would certainly love to play a game of this sort.
#8 Boogie Nights (1997)
The Movie: An adventure in the Californian high-life pornography industry of the late 1970s and early 1980s. This movie is one of the early hits delivered by a young Mark Wahlberg and starring some other Hollywood giants such as Julianne Moore and Burt Reynolds.
The Game: The game which should be rated as A ( Adults only 18+), should be a sort of an empire building gameplay much similar to the Playboy Mansion game. The player takes control of the activities being hosted within an already established setup. Participating in regular missions and building towards achievements to create a large business empire. The game should have side missions with characters from the movie to compose the structure of creating a wholesome gaming experience.
#9 300 (2006)
The Movie: In B.C 480, a state of war exists between Persia and Greece. During the Battle of Thermopylae, Leonidas, king of the Greek state of Sparta, leads his brave 300 warriors against the massive Persian army. Although certain death awaits the Spartans, their sacrifice inspires all the Greek states to unite against their common enemy. The second part features the battles between Themistocle and Persian Commander Artemisia which could be an expansion pack of the game in mind.
The Game: Something like ‘Age of Empires’ or ‘Warcraft’ springs up in mind when I think of 300 as a playable strategy game. With the inclusion of heroes like ‘Leonaidas, Xerxes, Themistocles, Artemisia and other prominent war heroes; this game is a potential treat for strategy enthusiasts and multiplayer gaming clans.
#10 Inglourious Basterds (2009)
The Movie: In Nazi-occupied France, Jewish refugees are slaughtered by Colonel Hans Landa. Escaping with her life, one such Jewish girl plots her revenge on the Nazis several years later.
When German war hero Fredrick Zoller takes a rapid interest in her and arranges an illustrious movie premiere at the theater she runs, she plots a bombing to blow up the theatre along with every major Nazi officer in attendance. The event catches the attention of the "Basterds", a group of Jewish-American guerilla soldiers and their paths cross for a fateful evening that created history.
The Game: It is certainly evident that this could make a good action game with a feel of the World War 2 in progress. This game could either be played through the eyes of each main character in separate story modes or a common progression of the story with the use of multiple characters on different stages of the game.
