Silent Hills is the upcoming version of the Silent Hill survival horror series which is popular for its psychological guilt monsters, scary impractical headwears and lots of spooky fog. The game is being created by Metal Gear Solid designer, Hideo Kojima and famed horror movie director Guillermo del Toro. The playable teaser on Ps4 at the Sony games conference has already given us a glimpse of their vision. Chances are, it will be a multi-platform game although there has been no official news. The mystery around this game is thicker than the spooky fog around the hell town itself which hasn’t stopped game buffs from devising their own intriguing theories.
#1 Silent Hills is about Multiple Universes

The setting of Silent Hills is evident to be based in multiple parallel universes or overlapping realities, switching between the real world and the other rust covered, nightmarish worlds.
The prevailing theory is that in this version of the game, there is more than one silent hill; hence the name given to this version is Silent Hill(s), in plural and also on other assumptions based on hints from suggestive trailers.
In this story, everyone creates their own silent hill as an escape to a land of self-purgatory. The storyline in this revolves around the killing of an unfortunate family, which is reason enough to be sent to their silent hill guilt dimension.
An advanced version of this theory even suggests that time travel might be an option; hence we can assume Silent Hill will be going deeper into a realm of metaphysical existences in the newest version of the game.
#2 The Protagonist is You, the Player, a Gamer
Yes, you. The teaser announces that the protagonist is a gamer who had lost his mind one day and killed everyone. Thus, was plunged into his/ her guilt dimension from where the game continues.
Some fans have suggested that this version of the game will probably be dealing with intense psychological horror for the user. As is evident from the teaser, each time you die and restart, a slight variation in what you expect can be quite unsettling.
Some other games which have similar gameplay include Arkham Asylum’s game crashes in the Scarecrow segment and the memory card wipeout trick used in Eternal Darkness. It will be a matter of time till we find out what other tricks the makers of Silent Hills have in stock for.
#3 Silent Hills is a Project Morpheus launch title
This might be disappointing for some gamers as this theory holds that Silent Hills might actually be only launched for VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift or even may be developed as Sony’s launch title for Project Morpheus.
Firstly, the PT is entirely in first person which is a first in the series of Silent Hill and secondly, the voice in the teaser says, “I will be coming back. And I am bringing my new toys with me.” which might be interpreted as a reference to Project Morpheus.
But let’s not jump to conclusions at this point, as this might just be an invalid assumption and the game might not be in first person at all.
#4 Silent Hills is a about Aliens?
The evidence to this is that a Swedish radio transmitter in the PT suggests that the radio drama by Orson Welles 75 years ago was actually true, making a reference to the radio drama ‘War of the Worlds’ broadcasted in 1938.
The voice in the radio goes on to say that they are here on our earth, they monitor and see us all and that very soon the gates to a new dimension will open. So maybe the separate universe hinted at in the trailer could be a reference to extra-terrestrials.
This is not uncommon in Silent Hill games as most versions include aliens and UFO’s in the storyline, towards the ending of the game.
#5 Silent Hills is set in Northwest USA
References in the teaser made to a native of NE USA, the black cottonwood tree, which also has the initials PT in its scientific name could be a well thought out hint to gamers about its setting being in the northwest region of USA.
However, it is certainly unclear how one is to connect the previous structure of Silent Hill with this version if the hill itself has changed to another location.
All this and much more will be keeping us in mystery till its release date, which still has not been officially announced.
