8 best James Bond games

‘The Name is Bond…James Bond…’One of the coolest lines ever uttered in the history of movies. James Bond is what that made you always dream of having a secret double life of secret super spy. You wanted to do some adrenaline pumping stunts, get to fight some really cool (and sometimes silly) villains, drink your vodka martini, shaken not stirred,…and the girls. I hate to sound like an MCP, but the last part has been one of the series’ strongest selling points (Otherwise ‘True Lies’ would have had fifteen sequels by now!)The James Bond movies have not been consistently great – there have been far too many misses than hits. The games based on the series too have suffered a similar fate, what with the worst outrunning the best. Here, I compile for you, the list of eight best James Bond titles that worked well,…okay…somewhat better than the rest, as games!

#8 Quantum of Solace

The only reason I mentioned this game here is that it is one of the few games that depicts the Bond actor’s (In this case, Daniel Craig’s) face perfectly. The game, however, is a sort of muddled mess, as it itself is not sure whether to be a third person shooter or a first person. There is simply nothing new in there. Just like the damn movie….Sigh!!!

#7 Agent Under Fire

This time, it is one of the most divisive Bond actor in play, Pierce Brosnan. And the game itself is as divisive in its reception with the fans. As you must have guessed, you play Bond, out to save a pretty fellow agent, Zoe Nightshade, from an evil industrialist. Though the quests and action are fairly commendable, and you have some really cool arsenal, the game, in its entirety, still doesn’t make the cut to be a really good one. But quite enjoyable, nevertheless…

#6 The World Is Not Enough

This one dropped the third person shooter style of its predecessor, the critically-panned Tomorrow Never Dies, to adopt first person shooter style, and it clearly worked here! Though certain aspects of the combat style reminds you of Call of Duty, the gameplay is engaging and you have some really fun quests. As for the plot, it follows the premise of the movie, so no worries! You know who the traitor is…whisper…it’s Elektra King…

#5 Goldeneye 007

Just to make sure that the players do not confuse this 2010 title with another, a much superior, Bond game title, they used Daniel Craig. The game follows the style of his movies – gritty and real. Which, in other words, means less fun!!! Though, I must admit the eye for detailing has to be appreciated, and the fighting was real rad! Danei Craig looks like he used Brosnan’s make-up man, though...

#4 From Russia With Love

A list of best James Bond games, and you wouldn’t have Sean Connery on it? Not to worry, Sean Connery is here, and that too, in his inimitable style. The movie ‘From Russia With Love’, was one of the best ones in the Bond movie universe, and thought the game doesn’t meet its high standards, it doesn’t disappoint either.

As far as the plot goes, you play Bond, Connery-style, and this time, he has to save, not the world, but himself from the machinations of a sinister organization called OCTOPUS. This game follows third person shooter style, and has some really cool hand-to-hand combat fight-play. The only downer, there is no Blofeld to hit here.

#3 GoldenEye 007 (1997)

Some gamers say this is the best game to come from the Bond stable, and I would have agreed with them, if it hadn’t been my list…Sorry guys! It has everything, I admit – good arsenal, challenging quests, great villains and stealth mode! As James Bond, you have to stop London from getting destroyed by the dastardly designs of a master-mind criminal, Alec Trevelyan, a rogue secret agent himself. Yup, I agree the plot is cool too!!! This one also features one of the most difficult levels in the annals of videogaming...Aztec, anyone?

#2 Nightfire

This is the first Bond game that I had played, and it was this game that got me addicted to FPS. So, Nightfire, you are always special!!! Everything rocks about the game – be it the walkthrough, beautiful lasses, the weapons, the missions, the car chases – it has everything that makes you a sucker for videogames. Plus, you get to fire missiles in the climax, that too, eight of them! And, who can forget that X-ray photography in the party scene!!! Just love it…wink, wink!!!

#1 Everything or Nothing

The best James Bond game by popular consensus, EON is the GTA of the series. Be it the action, or the complicated missions or the catchy score – the game is the perfect package. The voice cast is also fab, with the inclusion of Pierce Brosnan, Dame Judi Dench, Willem Dafoe and John Cleese. You get to do some really crazy stuff like sliding through a tank that’s about to be destroyed into smithereens, crazy bike stuff that reminds you of the best racing games, and some really hot dames for company. After all, that’s what James Bond lives for, doesn’t he?
