The ultimate terror amongst the bosses of the MK series, Goro with his four arms poses to be the toughest challenger, making him a favourite amongst fans. It is a shame that Goro is only given the status of a sub-boss as his character has received numerous praises by gaming experts, some calling him “A Legendary Villain”, “Grand Champion amongst Villians” and “The most devastating bio-mechanical creature ever to be created”. #9 Jax
Jax wears the attitude of a ferocious lion and is held by his fans as the best overall fighter of the MK franchise. With his bionic arms, he is by far the most deathly kombatian to take on head to head in close range. His special counter moves and the “Gotcha” grapple, breaks the opponent in mid-air, making him the most celebrated icon of the original MK trilogy. His arm ripping fatality move and his epic ‘head clap’ are some of the best “blood and gore” effects in the history of video gaming.
The story behind his transformation into a cybernetic soldier was to enable him to avenge his enemy Kano. In one sequence, he smashes Kano’s face, forcing him to wear a metal plate in the later versions. However, it is unclear if Jax will continue to feature in the later versions of Mortal Kombat.
#8 Raiden
Thunder God, Displacer and Storm Lord are the fighting styles which define the character of Raiden. He is the Thunder God and guardian of the Earthrealm. As his name suggests, he specializes in using electrifying combos, zapping in and out, placing death traps to fry his opponents into fatality.
Raiden combines different fighting strategies, stunning opponents and activating several electric blasts, making him a tactical fighter and a bit tricky to use. But those who use him well are thrilled with his god like abilities.
#7 Kano
He is a persistent nemesis for Jax and Sonya. The cybernetic plate on Kano’s face has a unique laser installation, giving him the look of a real bad guy. His fatality move of ripping out the still beating heart is the only reason of him being on this list.
Kano’s ‘Heart Rip Out’ is renowned as one of the all-time best fatality moves of the Mortal Kombat mega series. He is back for more brutality in the recent editions of the game.
#6 Sonya Blade
She and her comrade Jax are in pursuit of the villain Kano. Although she is weaker in comparison to other fighters, her unique ability to execute long range attacks, keep her opponents in constant pressure, giving her a good all round performance.
Her fatality move is deathly, where she does a handstand in front of her opponent and grabs them with her legs wrapped around their mid-section and tears apart the other, separating the upper and the lower parts of the body in brutal graphics.

Reptile is featured as a hybrid of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. His attacks like the “Forceball” creates an orb of enormous energy, directed towards his opponents to inflict serious pain, while his unique “Acid Spit” produces a swift projectile to the peril of his enemy.
In his fatality mode, he reveals his reptilian face and bites off his opponents head, making a fountain of blood. His other fascinating moves add up altogether to qualify him as part of this league.
#4 Liu Kang
He is the main protagonist in the comic book adaptation of the game. Liu Kang is a popular choice for both experienced and casual gamers and can be easily accessed with little difficulty. He specializes mostly in kicks; common moves include the ‘Flying Dragon Kick’ and the various effective paddle kicks, his signature move, the “Dragon Fire” sends across a mass of fire shaped like a dragon to engulf the other.

He lives up to his cool persona, creating ice based weapons like hammers, daggers and swords to break his opponent into a mess of pulp and bones. Without a doubt, he is one of the most popular villains in the Mortal Kombat franchise, making an appearance in every version except MK3. His classic dialogue, “Get over here!” is his signature (and perhaps of the entire MK series), commanding his opponent as he shoots his Kunai knife into the gut of the other and drags him closer for a better reach.
Scorpion inflicts deathly pain, using a combination of Ninjitsu, Hell fire and Inferno fighting styles, he delivers unique attacks using dual swords, demon fire, flame aura and also has the ability to summon a ‘Demonic Minion’.
