Final Fantasy XIV

If you’re one of those players having a tough time completing Final Fantasy XIV Garuda Primal, here’s a brief guide to help you through.

Phase One: A bit into commencing your fight with Garuda, she will cast ‘Calm within the storm’ which is a purple vortex on the outside of the area. One the vortex is cast, the only safe location left will be the inside of the circle so your party should stay in the middle of the circle at all times. Have your tank grab Garuda’s attention while the DPS attack. Garuda has an attack called ‘Feather rain’ which she will use shortly into the fight. The attack hits fast so make sure to get away from the boss the minute she leaps into the air. The attack has a DOT effect called ‘wind burn’ which stacks so it’s best to avoid the attack. Healers should cast ensuna on players affected by the wind burn debuff. Garuda will cast ‘Mistral Song’ when she lands. Make sure you are positioned behind the pillars when this happens to avoid damage.

Once this is over, Garuda will summon a swarm of Razor Plumes (which explode for 2k) and one satin plume. Take out the Satin Plume as soon as you can, as it will soon explode which will put the entire party to sleep. Once the Satin Plume is taken care of, focus your attention on the Razor Plumes as they can easily wipe out a stone pillar. Garuda will then land around the outside area in a clockwise formation every time she jumps and lands to do her ‘Mistral Song’. She will continue to do this until her health is back up to 75%. This marks the end of phase one.

Attacks to watch out for:

Calm within the storm

Feather Rain

Mistral Song

Razor plumes and Satin Plume summons

Phase Two: Garuda will summon two clones, Suparna and Chirada. Once summoned, Garuda will have an ability called the ‘Wicked Wheel’ which will last so long as these clones are alive. First have your party separate the clones as they can buff each other which will raise their magical and physical defence (and it stacks!) making them harder to kill. Luckily, this ability disappears when they are seperated. Garuda will again leap into the air and cast another ‘Feather Rain’. She will also cast ‘Aerial Wind’ when she lands. So it’s best to take care of the twins as soon as possible because if they are still alive when Garuda unleases her Aerial Wind, your party will be wiped.

Attacks to watch out for:

Clones Suparna and Chirada

Feather rain

Aerial Wind

Phase Three: During this phase, Garuda will activate her giant vortex, which will again leave only the center safe. She will summon her Razor Plumes at the start of the fight as well as a Spiny Plume. Spiny Plume can cast a de-buff on its target, this ability is called ‘Thermal Low’ and once it stacks up to three times, it will explode causing a Super Cyclone. This will cause damage to the entire party and at worst, a wipe. To prevent this from happening keep switching its main target. This will stop the de-buff from stacking. Have your main tank pull Garuda and Spiny Plume while the rest can focus on the Razor Plumes. Make sure to keep Spiny Plume alive as it will be useful.

Once all the Razor Plumes are dead, focus all attacks on Garuda. Eventually she will jump into the air. When this happens, take out Spiny Plume. It will explode which will inflect some AOE damage but also creates a ‘Sacred Bubble’. Get your whole party into this circle as it gives a ‘Thermal High’ buff which will increase your parties wind resistance. This wind resistance is crucial if you want to survive Garuda’s ‘Mistral Shriek’ and ‘Aerial Blast’ attacks. After these attacks, focus DPS on Garuda. She will again jump into the air. Refocus your attack on Spiny Plume again to receive the buff.

Once this is over, Garuda will land in the middle of the area. She will again summon Chirada, Suparna and Spiny Plume. Now you will only have a minute to take out Chirada and Suparna before Garuda launches her next Aerial Blast. Not taking them out before this will cause a party wipe so make haste. There will be five static vortexes that will cover the entire area which will only leave a few spots safe. Again have your main tank focus on Garuda and Suparna while the second tank pulls Chirada and the Spiny Plume. Split your party into two groups and stand on two safe areas on the edge of the map while the two tanks are across from each other. Make sure you have a healer with each group. You can also stay in one group while the two tanks are still directly across from each other. Focus on keeping Chirada and Suparna away from each other and don’t forget about switching Spiny Plumes target to keep the ‘Thermal Low’ de-buff in check. Once the clones are dead, refocus your attack on Garuda till she leaps into the air. Taking out Spiny Plume again leave a Sacred Bubble. Get into the bubble and get your buffs up. Continue this cycle till you finally defeat Garuda.

Attacks to watch out for:

Calm within the storm

Razor Plumes

Spiny Plume

Mistral Shriek

Aerial Blast

Chirada and Suparna summons

Static vortexes
