Preview of GenG vs. G2 Esports at the League of Legends MSI 2023 Bracket Stage
Prediction
Despite being a top LCK team for some years, this will be the first time GenG will participate in the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitional (MSI). After their dominant 3-1 victory over T1 in the LCK Spring 2023 final, Chovy and Co are looking to bag their first major international trophy.
Last year, GenG got knocked out in the 2022 World Championship semifinals. Following that, they had a rocky start to the LCK spring split. They played T1 three times and lost all three. However, they beat them in the final to lift the LCK trophy.
Their most recent additions, the bottom-lane duo Peyz and Delight, have been the most influential stars on their roster. The Summoner's Rift was no match for the seventeen-year-old Kim "Peyz" Su-hwan, who was unstoppable as an ADC.
As for G2 Esports, they performed spectacularly in the League of Legends MSI 2023 play-in stage. They earned the play-in spot after winning the LEC winter split. However, they lost against the Mad Lions in the LEC spring split and could not directly qualify for the bracket stage of the MSI 2023.
Despite being a play-in team, G2 took no prisoners on their way to the main stage. They displayed a phenomenal team performance and defeated LOUD and PSG Talon 2-0.
The most prominent factor in G2 was their star top laner, Sergen "BrokenBlade" Çelik. He picked four different champions in four matches and won the most MVPs (2) in the play-in stage.
G2 previously won the MSI trophy in 2019. They are more motivated than ever to repeat that feat to triumph.
As Chovy and Caps square off in the BO5, GenG vs G2 Esports in MSI 2023 will be one for the ages. Although both teams have excellent players and a strong team dynamic, GenG is expected to take the series in the end.
Head-to-head
The last time GenG and G2 met was in the 2020 World Championship quarterfinals. The latter won the series 3-0, and Caps was named MVP.
