Genshin Impact 4.8 trailer breakdown

On July 7, 2024, HoYoverse released the 4.8 trailer for Genshin Impact. The trailer is called Summertide Scales and Tales, and it gives a glimpse into what this upcoming version has in store for the players. In this trailer, we can see the new limited-time summer map called Simulanka and get a look at the newest 5-star character, Emilie.

The 4.8 trailer starts with Tighnari talking about Port Ormos organizing a "Flower Exhibition." Judging by the tone of the characters, it seems like something eerie is afoot. Genshin Impact then proceeds to showcase its newest 5-star character, Emilie, in combat.

After Emilie's gameplay exhibition, the first official look at the new summer map, Simulanka takes the spotlight. An unfamiliar voice that seems to be calling the traveler a "hero from another world" can be heard asking them to restore peace to this land. Based on Paimon's reaction, this unfamiliar voice seems to be coming from a "chubby paper hamster." It looks like we will come across many origami creatures across this map that have somehow gained the ability to talk.

Following this encounter, both Kirara and Nilou can be seen wearing their new outfits. Kirara seems to have just woken up from her sleep when she finds the Traveler, Paimon, and Nilou standing in front of her. It appears that she simply woke up in this strange area after having a dream. Nilou confirms this, saying that she too recently woke up on this island and that she was just reading a book at the Grand Bazaar.

A few more glimpses of some areas of the new map are teased here. It looks like the Traveler, along with their companions, will board a toy train that will take them to a castle that seems to be made of blocks, cogs, and wind-up keys. There seems to be a giant statue of a witch on top of the castle.

The Wanderer makes an appearance out of the blue, saying that if he were to answer all the questions, they would be there until the next Interdarshan Championship. During his dialogue, the entire floor beneath the Traveler's feet is falling apart, and a dragon is revealed.

It seems that the Wanderer is on a quest to find the dragon responsible for creating the mess that the Traveler and their companions have found themselves in.
