The Genshin Impact 5.3 update is expected to be the first version update of 2025 and recent leaks from multiple sources suggest that this update will release two new playable characters. One of them is Natlan's Pyro Archon Mavuika and the other is Citlali, an experienced priestess from the Masters of the Wind tribe. Additionally, version 5.3 will likely celebrate the Lantern Rite festival, so Liyue character reruns are also likely.

Genshin Impact 5.3 characters and banners leaked

Iris Leaks recently leaked the potential new characters in Genshin Impact's version 5.2 and 5.3 updates. According to the leaker, Mavuika and Citlali will likely be released as the new playable characters in version 5.3, expected to go live on January 1, 2025. Moreover, both are rumored to be 5-star units.

That said, Mavuika is the Pyro Archon so it shouldn't be surprising, and her element is naturally Pyro. Furthermore, her weapon of choice is likely a Claymore since she used it during her fight against Il Capitano. Mavuika in version 5.3 also makes sense since this update will release the Natlan Archon Quest's conclusion.

Meanwhile, Citlali is a Cryo character, as confirmed in the Ignition Teaser. Her name was mentioned multiple times during the Archon Quest, so players can expect to make her first in-game appearance soon. Lastly, the leaks suggest that she is a Catalyst user.

Note that Iris Leaks is a new leaker and has no proven track record, but their leaks have been vouched for by hxg_diluc so the info is expected to be reliable. However, Iris Leaks also claimed that Lantern Rite would be in version 5.4, but hxg later stated that the Liyue event would likely be in version 5.3 instead. So readers must take the leaks with a grain of salt.

Speaking of Lantern Rite, @hxg_diluc also claims that the highly anticipated Madame Ping will not be released in the Genshin Impact 5.3 update. That said, assuming the Lantern Rite event is celebrated in version 5.3, Travelers can still expect Xiao to get a rerun since he always gets a rerun banner during the event.
