Banner schedules for most HoYoverse games, including Genshin Impact, have followed a certain pattern for quite some time. According to this pattern, if two new 5-Star characters are released during one patch, they are almost always spaced out over two halves. One new 5-Star unit gets their banner in the first half, while the other is featured in the second half banner.

However, recent leaks seem to suggest that this pattern will be overhauled for all HoYoverse games (except Honkai Impact 3rd), and replaced with a fresh banner system.

This article discusses this leak that hints at a brand new banner system for Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero.

Character banner system to get an overhaul in Genshin Impact and other HoYoverse games

According to a leak sourced from Tieba, certain HoYoverse games will be getting a new banner system soon, which will change how characters are released throughout the patch. As per this leak, from here on, all new characters will be released in the first half of the patch, and their banners will be available to pull on for the entirety of the patch. Additionally, rerun banners will only be featured in the second half of the patch.

According to the leak, this system will be implemented in three HoYoverse games: Genshin Impact (starting from version 5.3), Honkai Star Rail (starting from version 3.0), and Zenless Zone Zero (starting from version 1.4). Honkai Impact 3rd will not be affected by this change and will continue its standard banner pattern as usual.

This leak sparked discussions among the playerbase, most of whom deemed it a good idea, as there will be more time to save up and pull for the new characters since their banners will be available for the entire patch duration (42 days).

Interestingly, this leak about the banner system overhaul was preceded by a leak from Full Stop Chan (reposted on X by user @hxg_diluc) regarding the Genshin Impact 5.3 banners. According to this leak, both the new 5-Star characters Pyro Archon Mavuika and Cryo unit Citlali will have their banners in the first half of version 5.3.

If the leak regarding the new banner system turns out to be true, that explains the choice behind releasing both new 5-Star characters in the first half of Genshin Impact version 5.3. However, players must wait for more information from HoYoverse to confirm this speculation.
