Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree expansion has drawn in a sizable number of players to the game - both new and old. Players have been grinding through the base game for weeks in anticipation of the DLC, opting to find a way to raise their power levels to be able to take on even the toughest of foes.

To this extent, the official r/Eldenring subreddit was filled with “Am I too overleveled” posts for months, as players were worried that the DLC would be a walk in the park. Unfortunately for these players, FromSoftware had already considered this when designing the expansion - making Shadow of the Erdtree quite difficult for most.

Echoing the same sentiment, user u/PM-Me-Your-Textures has created a hilarious meme featuring Ross Geller from Friends, with his iconic “Get a load of this guy” pose, which quotes:

"AM I OVERLEVELED FOR THE DLC?!"

In this meme, Ross is being used to refer to none other than the Blackgaol Knight, an optional boss who can be encountered during the earlier parts of Shadow of the Erdtree.

This optional boss is one of the several roadblocks players will face during their journey in Elden Ring’s DLC, and can be quite annoying thanks to his massive HP pool and persistent attacks.

Redditor u/supercleverhandle476 humorously remarks that before ultimately meeting their demise at the hands of the NPC, they walked into the mausoleum thinking:

“who’s this scrub?”

u/Pokepunk710 also relays the same, commenting that there was a “0% chance” that players would be overleveled for the DLC. User u/lemonloaff also remarks that although difficult, he has learned that as always, patience is the key to defeating these enemies.

On the other hand, some players are not particularly happy about the difficulty curve. User u/Burkex99 witnessed the NPC restore themselves to full health using an Estus Flask, and it was a particularly demoralizing experience for them.

Another user, u/Aggressive-Jacket663, has humorously remarked that they will make it to level 200 before heading into the Elden Ring DLC, as a precaution.

Is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree too difficult?

Shadow of the Erdtree has received a ton of criticism regarding its game balance and overall difficulty since its launch. While it is true that the DLC is considerably more difficult than the base game, it is in no way impossible to complete.

With enough perseverance, patience, and careful strategizing, players should be able to eventually beat even the hardest of Elden Ring’s bosses - no matter how many tries it takes.

FromSoftware’s games have always been notoriously difficult, and Erdtree is no exception to this rule. Players should know what they are getting into before attempting to play it.
