Ghost of Yotei: Everything we know so far about Ghost of Tsushima sequel

Ghost of Yotei is one of the most highly-anticipated sequels set to be released in 2025. The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima promises to be an exciting game with a new story and protagonist. While it will keep to the premises of the previous title, featuring a warrior traveling feudal Japan, Sucker Punch also stated that it is going to innovate and do some exciting things.

This was revealed during Sony’s PlayStation State of Play. Alongside other major reveals, such as the Lunar Remaster and Dynasty Warriors Origin’s release date, Ghost of Yotei offers fans an exciting prospect: a continuation to the tale told by Sucker Punch back in 2020.

Ghost of Yotei, the sequel of Ghost of Tsushima, takes place 300 years after the original game: 1603. This means Sucker Punch can tell a different story and let someone new wear the mask of the Ghost.

We know the location of the game as well - Yotei. This region is home to Mount Yotei, in what was then called the Ezo region (now Hokkaido).

This story takes place during the end of the Sengoku Jidai era, known commonly as the Warring States era. Specifically, it takes place a few short years before the end of it. Despite that, the Yotei area is outside of Japan’s control.

Another thing we know for certain is that Sucker Punch is working on introducing new mechanics, weapons, and gameplay improvements. As this is its first game designed specifically for PlayStation 5, the studio can make the game look and feel even more realistic than the previous one.

While not much is known about the Ghost of Tsushima sequel right now, fans do know who will voice the new Ghost. That person is Erika Ishii, who, in addition to creating content on Dropout.TV, also voiced Valkyrie in Apex Legends, among other roles.

In the trailer, it was revealed that while many come to Yotei to disappear, the Ghost has arrived with one purpose: to hunt. As a result, every Ronin is seeking her out.

The trailer also makes several parallels to cowboy films, which makes sense. After all, Samurai films inspired the popular spaghetti Westerns, so it all comes full circle with Ghost of Yotei.

While the title will be coming in 2025, very little is known beyond this. It’s a very exciting prospect to see the game come to life, as we were huge fans of the original Ghost of Tsushima.
