5 of the best horror games that are not for the faint of heart
1) Darkest Dungeon
Darkest Dungeon happens to be one of those few horror games that come in the form of an RPG and actually execute it well.
You will find yourself in the shoes of a manager tasked with advising a group of adventure seekers who find themselves in peril with almost every step they take. There are a lot of character deaths here.
If anger management is not your strong suit, you are not meant for Darkest Dungeon. If you manage to complete the game somehow, it will surely feel like a huge achievement.
2) Escape the Ayuwoki
Ayuwoki is a demon that resides in a dilapidated mansion in Escape the Ayuwoki. Finding your way out of this haunted abode will be challenging.
Focus is the name of the game here, and you must strategically plan out which tasks you need to complete first. One mistake can prove to be fatal as Ayuwoki is always out on the hunt for you. What makes this game unique is that the demon can hear every breath you take and any sound that comes through your microphone.
If you are calm and composed, you might have slim chances of beating Escape the Ayuwoki.
3) Bloodborne
FromSoftware has released some of the highest-ranking horror games, Dark Souls being one of its most famous releases. However, it pales in comparison to Bloodborne if you consider how excruciatingly difficult and vexing it is.
You will always find yourself on the tip of your toes as there are too many enemies out on the hunt for you. The boss fights are exceptionally difficult, and there is no margin for error as one wrong step could spell out death for you.
Bloodborne really tests the skill and perseverance of whoever dares to play it. Even if you are skilled at games from FromSoftware, you would be lucky to finish this one without slamming your fist into your monitor.

4) The Evil Within (Akumu Mode)
The Evil Within is an iconic name in the world of horror games, but it is not as challenging and demanding as Resident Evil. It does have a lot of enemies, some of which come at you in hordes. However, it does not feel all that intimidating. If you are decent at horror games, you will find it only fairly challenging.
However, the real hardship of The Evil Within begins when you play it on the highest difficulty, which is also known as the Akumu Mode. Here, you must finish the entire game without being touched by any enemy or trap. If that happens, you’ll be sent back to ground zero.
There is absolutely no room for error. You need to be sure about every move that you make, your aim must be on point, and you have to be at the top of your game to beat the Akumu mode.
5) Granny
When it comes to difficult and frustrating horror games with spine-chilling jumpscares, Granny takes the cake. In this game, you will find yourself captive inside the broken-down house of a creepy old woman, Granny. Your objective is to avoid getting caught by her and escape the house within five days.
Sounds simple, right? It is far from that. Granny is the definition of rage-inducing horror games as you will always manage to run into traps throughout the house. In addition, if you are not careful enough, you will come face to face with Granny herself.
There is no way in which you can be stealthy as you will have to move around the house to find clues or tools that are essential for you to escape, all of this while you have Granny on your tail.
Given all the intricacies involved, it is deviously difficult to finish Granny in normal mode. However, if you are really up for a challenge, you must try the game in hard mode to take things up a notch.
