Honkai Star Rail reveals two HI3 Expy characters in new Amphoreus Saga of Heroes trailer

HoYoverse recently hosted the Honkai Star Rail 2.7 livestream, giving players a sneak peek into the upcoming Amphoreus region. A trailer titled "Golden Epic -- Amphoreus' Saga of Heroes," broadcast during the showcase revealed 12 new Amphoreus characters, who will become playable once the region is released in the game's 3.0 version. The tail end of the video introduced a 13th character, who seemed to break the fourth wall and speak directly to the audience.

Out of these 13 characters teased for Amphoreus, two are Honkai Impact 3rd Expys. Safe to say, players are immensely excited to get Honkai Impact 3rd lookalike characters in Honkai Star Rail.

HI3 Kevin and Elysia revealed in Honkai Star Rail

The Amphoreus Saga of Heroes trailer broadcast during the Honkai Star Rail 2.7 livestream revealed two Honkai Impact 3rd Expy characters.

Basically, 'Expy' stands for 'exported' and implies that characters have been added to a game via a crossover from another universe or another title. These characters share similar designs and function as variants of the original units.

The two Honkai Impact 3rd characters who will have variants of themselves in the upcoming region of Amphoreus are Kevin and Elysia. Both belong to the faction Flame-Chasers in Honkai Impact 3rd.

The phrase "flame-chasing" was also used in the Amphoreus trailer video, pointing to a potential reunion of the 13 Flame Chasers (from Honkai Impact 3rd) in Honkai Star Rail, in the form of Expy characters.

The biggest giveaway of a character being an Expy is the same voice actor lending their voices to both characters, which is something HoYoverse is famous for doing.

For example, Raiden Shogun (from Genshin Impact) and Acheron (from HSR) are both expy variants of the character Raiden Mei from Honkai Impact 3rd. All three characters are voiced by the same Japanese and Chinese voice actors, thus confirming that they are all variants of the same unit across different universes.

While the potential Kevin Expy (whose name in HSR is Phainon) did not have any lines in the Amphoreus trailer video from which to discern his voice, Cyrene -- the Elysia expy -- did.

Per the credits, Cyrene is voiced in the Japanese dub by Marina Inoue, who plays Elysia in the Japanese dub of Honkai Impact 3rd. The Chinese dub for Cyrene is done by YanNing, who voices Elysia in the Chinese version of Honkai Impact 3rd. At this point, it is all but confirmed that the girl named Cyrene is an Elysia Expy who will be playable.

As for Phainon, although his voice actor cannot be confirmed yet, plenty of things point to him being a Kevin Expy. These include his looks, clothing, and fighting posture in the Amphoreus trailer video, as well as his principles and ideals. Furthermore, previous leaks from leaker Cleo had hinted at a Kevin-lookalike Expy in Honkai Star Rail, which now appears to be Phainon.
