Honkai Star Rail routinely features several in-game events to engage the player base. Aetherium Wars is the highlighted event for version 1.4, bringing with it a new twist on the classic turn-based formula the game has delivered so far to players.

Drawing heavy inspiration from the Pokemon series of video games, the Aetherium Wars involves players training and facing off against other opponents using their very own summoned entities.

Readers can find a breakdown of the game mode in the rest of the article below.

Once the standoff between the IPC and Bronya comes to a conclusion, players will be contacted by a mysterious individual who introduces them to the rules of the event.

The rules are summarized below:

  • Trailblazers take control of Aether Spirits, who in turn obey your commands in a Pokemon-themed battle arena.
  • The fights are entirely turn-based, with both skills and normal attacks for each enemy/allied unit.
  • Each Aether Spirit is unique, possessing its own strengths, weaknesses, and attributes.
  • Aether Spirits follow a rock-paper-scissor-styled weakness chart.
  • In short, Abberants deal more damage to Humanoids, while Humanoids deal more damage to Mechanical, with the Mechanical dealing more damage to Humanoids - completing the cycle.
  • It is possible to use Expansion Chips to upgrade the abilities of your Aether Spirits, strengthening them in battle. Aether Spirit Upgrade Data can also be collected to increase the stats of your Spirits.
  • The basic structure of combat remains similar to that of the base game.

Players will have to “catch ‘em all” to progress through the event and secure decisive victories. This particular rendition of Pokemon-themed gameplay is quite engaging and a delight to play through - with auto-battle making fights much simpler.
