Horizon Zero Dawn 2: 4 things we want in Guerrilla Game's highly anticipated sequel

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is happening. There's no doubt about that seeing the original's success and the scope of the world Guerrilla Games created with such patience and love. There hasn't yet been any confirmation about the sequel yet, however, lead narrative director John Gonzalez did discuss after the game's launch about a potential sequel.

For now, Horizon Zero Dawn 2 remains to be a mystery and possibly a launch title for the PS5 which might be coming in 2020. Since the game will use the Decima Engine, it will probably take lesser time to develop than the first part.

Horizon Zero Dawn was a near perfect game, especially seeing that it was Guerrilla Game's first open world RPG title. However, there were many areas where the game did show its immaturity and that is what we are going to discuss here.

Here are 4 things Horizon Zero Dawn 2 we absolutely want in the game's sequel:

#1 Better Side Characters

Horizon Zero Dawn

As much as I loved the main narrative of Horizon Zero Dawn which was mystical in its own way as well Aloy who undoubtedly is one of my favourite protagonist this generation of console, where the game really lacked was giving us interesting side characters.

Side characters are really important in the game with a scope like Horizon Zero Dawn and this is where the sequel could learn from the likes of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt or Red Dead Redemption 2.

Both the games offered plenty of interesting encounters with characters that you'll actually remember. In fact, some encounters were even more interesting than the main plot. This helps in building a realistic and believable open world.

As far as I remember, everyone in Horizon Zero Dawn except Aloy was forgettable, even the main villain. This shouldn't happen in Horizon Zero Dawn 2.

#2 More Weapons

Horizon Zero Dawn's gameplay was enthralling, exciting and addictive. Aloy controlled beautifully. The camera was sleek and precise. The bow itself functioned so well that none of the combat encounters ever felt boring.

Of course where Horizon Zero Dawn really lacked, considering that gameplay was its priority was providing Aloy with a vast variety of weapons. Sure every type which was present in the game were extremely useful. The different bows, rope caster, trip caster, sharp shot were all distinct and important but their variant was severely lacking.

I mean except the three types of every weapon time, the only other important weapon you get is the legendary one, that too after grinding for a countless number of hours in finishing the different hunting challenges but even that is not very effective.

The same issue could be said about one of my other favourite game this generation which was Bloodborne. It had less variety of weapons but each one of them very entirely unique and felt useful, although this game did provide a huge number of options when it came to choosing weapons in it's DLC- The Old Hunters.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 seems to keep this in mind and should stick to a more loot based system when it comes to its weapons like in the recent Assassin's Creed games or at least give us more option to choose from the existing weapon types. Here's hoping that Guerrilla Games are taking notes.

#3 Bigger Settlements

Horizon Zero Dawn offered some really breathtaking vistas and landscapes.

Every location offered a different kind of flora and looked incredibly detailed as if special attention was given to them while designing the world. However, the game failed to provide any huge towns or city that would feel believable.

Even the NPC's in every settlement looked very identical and for a 2017 game with such beautiful visuals, it was a little jarring, to say the least. Except for Meridian every other town in the game seemed to look similar and the sequel could really learn a lot from The Witcher 3's Novigrad or even Assassin's Creed Origin's portray of Alexandria.

Both these areas looked like a place where people actually lived and performed their day to day activities.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 could really up the game by providing bigger and more varied looking settlements and needless to say there's a lot of scope in making them because of the different tribes introduced in the first game and the cultural difference each one had.

#4 Innovative looking machines (Don't copy every Dinosaur that ever existed)

I know many people would disagree that the machines in Horizon Zero Dawn 2 just have had to be inspired by the Dinosaurs because that's what it has always been about right?

But let's imagine if they are not. I mean yes the machines from the first game will definitely make a return but Guerrilla Games really have to be more creative when it comes to designing machines from their next game.

We already have one in the form of T Rex, Raptors, Pterosaur etc. Give us something cooler, something we can't compare to and say "Hey look! This is a robotic version of this Dinasour/reptile. Get my point?

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is still years away, and the development is probably in full swing. Here's hoping Guerrilla Games don't be lazy and improve upon its predecessor in every single way.
