Remnant 2's The Dark Horizon expansion is the final planned post-launch content for Gunfire Games' critically acclaimed action RPG. Much like the previous two expansions for Remnant 2 — The Awakened King and The Forgotten Kingdom — The Dark Horizon can be accessed at any time during your playthrough, as long as you've completed the Labyrinth.
However, accessing the DLC can be tricky for some players, especially those who are new to Remnant 2, or haven't played any of the previous DLCs. While the process is quite straightforward, the game doesn't necessarily do a good job explaining it, which might leave some players confused.
Here's a comprehensive guide on how to start Remnant 2's latest The Dark Horizon expansion.

Steps to start The Dark Horizon DLC in Remnant 2
The first thing you need to make sure before starting The Dark Horizon DLC is that your game is up-to-date with the latest title update. If you own the Ultimate Edition of Remnant 2, you should get the expansion at no additional cost. If you own the Standard Edition, you can either buy the DLC bundle or The Dark Horizon expansion as a standalone DLC.
Once your game is up-to-date on your chosen platform (PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC), go to Ward 13 to head into the latest expansion. Here are the steps to start The Dark Horizon expansion:
- Head to Ward 13 and interact with the World Stone.
- Select World Settings.
- Choose Reroll Adventure Mode and select The Dark Kingdom DLC from the list of expansions.
- If you want to start an entirely new campaign, select Campaign.
- Choose your preferred difficulty and head to the world menu, where you will find N'Erud which takes you into the DLC.
If this is your first time playing the expansion, it's highly recommended to choose the One-shot Adventure mode. Doing so essentially guarantees that you get to experience the DLC exclusively, separate from the base game version of N'Erud. One-shot Adventure is only available once, upon starting the DLC for the first time.
Your future playthroughs of The Dark Horizon won't give you the option to choose the DLC exclusively, instead, the map will be mixed with the base game version of N'Erud. The One-shot mode is the perfect way to experience the DLC for the first time, as it makes it easier to obtain the DLC exclusive rewards, especially the new Archetypes and weapons.
If you want to get your hands on the new Warden Archetype, starting The Dark Horizon in One-shot Adventure mode is highly recommended.
