God of War Ragnarok has finally made its way to PC, albeit with some major shortcomings, chief among them being the mandatory PSN requirement. Despite being an exclusively single-player title, Ragnarok on PC mandates having a PlayStation Network account, which players need to be signed in to while playing the game.

The PlayStation Network account requirement was understandable in the case of Helldivers 2 as well as Ghost of Tsushima, considering both these titles offer some form of multiplayer interaction. However, for a game like God of War Ragnarok, it's completely unnecessary.

Not only does the PSN requirement hinder the experience of PC players, who usually hate having to sign in and install additional DRMs, but also actively discourages many from buying the game in the first place. However, there's a way to completely bypass the PSN requirement in Ragnarok on PC, albeit with some major caveats.

Steps to bypass the PSN account requirement in God of War Ragnarok PC

To skip the PSN login step in God of War Ragnarok's PC version, you essentially need to boot the game up in offline mode, completely disconnected from the internet. The best way to do this is to log in to Steam, make sure the game is up-to-date, and then switch to Steam's offline mode. You can also disconnect your PC from the internet, just to be on the safe side.

Here are the steps that you need to follow to bypass having to log into the PlayStation Network account in God of War Ragnarok PC:

  • Launch Steam in online mode.
  • Make sure you have the game installed and up-to-date.
  • Go to the Steam option on the top left.
  • Click Steam > Go Offline.
  • Once Steam launches in Offline mode, disconnect your PC from the internet.
  • Launch the game.

Launching God of War Ragnarok offline completely bypasses the PSN login step, booting you directly into the main menu. However, it should be noted that if you connect your PC to the internet and allow Steam to go online, the next time you launch the game, it will require you to log into a PlayStation Network account. There's no workaround for this.

You can connect your PC to the internet once the game is launched offline. However, make sure to not launch Steam in online mode, as that will compromise the offline trick. While this process is surely cumbersome, it's currently the only way to bypass the arbitrary PSN requirement in Ragnarok.

Furthermore, while the offline trick does work, as of writing this article, it's quite possible that PlayStation and Santa Monica Studios might end up patching this trick later down the road. If that does happen, we will update this article with up-to-date information and any other tricks to get around the forced PSN integration.
