With the update 2.2, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally introduced the highly demanded customization options for vehicles. Now, you can freely change the color schemes of the cars you own (most of them). With the new update, you can change the color of select cars when you own them. These include the Herrera, Mizutani, Quadra, and Villefort. After owning them, they will show an orange paint sign. When you summon these cars at a Ripperdoc or vehicle tuning station and get in, you will see the sign pop up on the lower left corner of your screen.

Simply press the corresponding input (generally Y for keyboard and mouse controls). Once you press it, a set of color circles will appear. Drag the cursor on them to select your preferred shade and confirm. Once done, the car will perform an animation and change its color to your selected scheme.
You can save the color schemes and apply them to all the customizable cars. Keep in mind that not all cars support multiple color circles. So if you save a Gold and Black scheme, but the car that you applied it on only supports one color at a time, it will only pick the Gold or Black color and repaint itself.
Customization options become fully available after Act 1 of the main story. Johnny Silverhand will also appear in your passenger seat when you ride alone and occasionally comment on your driving skills.

Restrictions to keep in mind
- Quest Vehicles: Cars linked to specific quests cannot have their colors changed.
- NCPD Vehicles: Police vehicles are excluded from customization options.
- Incompatible Cars: Certain vehicles may not support CrystalCoat™ or TWINTONE™ technology.
Changing your car’s color can reduce your NCPD Wanted Level, making it harder for the police to track you. Switching to a new paint job after a chase can help you blend in and avoid detection.
