Captain Kalpa-Wave is one of the main story bosses in Black Myth Wukong that you must defeat before heading inside the Thunderclap Temple. Much like Captain Wise-Voice, Captain Kalpa-Wave is also tied to the Prisoner questline. It is technically the last boss you need to defeat to obtain the Chu-Bai Spear from the Prisoner at the Pagoda Realm.
However, unlike Captain Wise-Voice, Kalpa-Wave isn't particularly challenging. In fact, it's probably the easiest of all the three Captains in Chapter 3 - The New West. Captain Kalpa-Wave has a rather small health bar, accompanied by some easy-to-dodge attacks and combos. The only attack that can catch you off-guard is a poison AOE.
Here's a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat Captain Kalpa-Wave in Black Myth Wukong.

Tips to easily defeat Captain Kalpa-Wave in Black Myth Wukong
Captain Kalpa-Wave is extremely weak to Burn damage, which you can easily inflict using either Guangzhi Spirit Transformation Spell, or if you're in New Game+, using the Staff of Blazing Karma. Furthermore, the boss also is fairly easy to stagger-lock, as such, you can get it to less than half health using something like the Plantain Fan.
The only thing you need to look out for is the Blood AOE (area-of-effect) attack, which inflicts Poison status. And much like any other status ailment in Black Myth Wukong, Poison can easily deplete your health bar in mere minutes, unless nullified.
Here are some tips that should help you against Captain Kalpa-Wave in Black Myth Wukong:
- Captain Kalpa-Wave always starts the battle with a stomp attack, followed by an AOE attack. Don't rush the boss as soon as you enter the arena, instead, focus on dodging the first wave of its attacks and then retaliate with Immobilize.
- After using Immobilize, attack the boss with a charged-heavy, and follow it up with A Pluck of Many.
- While the clones keep the boss busy, head behind the boss and keep attacking it until you charge your Focus gauge to three or four charges. Once your Focus is fully charged, attack the boss to get past the first phase.
- In the second phase, Captain Kalpa-Wave will summon a blood pool, which persists until the boss is defeated. The best way to avoid this attack is using the Pillar Stance.
- Alternatively, you can simply stick to using Smash Stance and Immobilize to take down the boss as quickly as possible, before Poison depletes your health bar.
- You can also use Cloud Step to easily stagger the boss and even knock it down to deal a ton of damage.
Once Captain Kalpa-Wave is defeated, you will be able to proceed inside the New Thunderclap Temple's premises. Furthermore, after defeating the boss, you should also be able to complete the Prisoner's questline, granted you defeated the previous Captains and captured their Spirits.
