Elder Jinchi is among the most powerful early-game bosses that are entirely missable in Black Myth Wukong. Much like Elden Ring, Sekiro, and Lies of P before it, Black Myth Wukong features some really cool bosses that despite their spectacle and challenge, aren't necessary for the main story. They can be completely missed out on if you're not exploring carefully.

The Elder Jinchi is one such boss, with a moveset that's quite similar to that of the Wandering Wight, albeit with much more power and ferocity. While the boss is entirely missable, you really don't want to skip the encounter against the Elder Jinchi simply due to the rewards it gives if you do manage to defeat it.

That said, going blind into the boss fight might not be a good idea, considering the amount of damage the Elder Jinchi can do. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat the Elder Jinchi in Black Myth Wukong.

Much like a main story boss, Elder Jinchi is introduced with a short cutscene, that is further expanded upon when you finish the first chapter and watch its epilogue. That said, at first glance, Elder Jinchi will look just like the Wandering Wight. To be fair, you won't be wrong.

The Elder Jinchi is pretty much similar to the Wandering Wight and also borrows some of the mini-boss movesets. However, unlike the Wandering Wight, the Elder Jinchi can technically one-shot you if you're not careful. Thankfully, most of the strategies that worked against the Wandering Wight, still work against the Elder Jinchi, albeit with some changes.

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat the Elder Jinchi in Black Myth Wukong:

  • The Elder Jinchi always starts the fight with a ground pound followed by a slam or an overhead drop attack. Make sure you're not rushing the boss right from the get-go.
  • Instead, head inside the boss arena and be prepared to dodge to the left or right.
  • The arena is also infested with undead corpses of Monks that used to inhabit the Temple. These Monks cause some issues with the lock-on camera.
  • However, if you lock on to the Elder Jinchi and don't touch the right stick, it shouldn't be much of an issue.
  • Your primary way of dealing damage would be to use varied combos since that easily staggers the boss and also inflicts a ton of damage.
  • Additionally, you would want to use Immobilize Spell, but sparingly.
  • Halfway through the fight, the Elder Jinchi will levitate up in midair and start healing himself. To stop him from healing, you need to kill the undead that he spawns.
  • The best way to do so is to use the Red Tides Transformation Spell and the charged heavy attack. Alternatively, you can simply kite around the boss and hit the undead with your staff's regular attack.
  • Make sure to not go for a full combo on these undead Monks, since they die with just a single hit.
  • The Elder Jinchi only does this healing phase once in the entire boss fight. Also, if you have the Thrust Stance, you can use its charged heavy attack to deal damage to the boss as well.
  • Another attack to look out for is the palm beam and slam. This attack has a fairly long wind-up, but a rather sudden release, which can catch you off guard.
  • Dodging is the best way to avoid this. Alternatively, you can simply spring across the arena's perimeter to try and avoid getting hit by the slam attack.
  • You can also use Immobilize to stun the boss out of his attack animation.

The best tools to use against the Elder Jinchi are the varied combos (light attack + light attack + heavy attack) along with the Immobilize Spell. The Red Tide Transformation also helps a ton in terms of survivability. Make sure that you use the RT+B (R2+circle) combo once the Transformation's Focus gauge is maxed out.
