The Emerald-Armed Mantis is one of the last few bosses you will need to defeat in order to make your way to the conclusion of Black Myth Wukong's story. While not technically bone-crushingly difficult, the Emerald-Armed Mantis is surely one of the most challenging encounters in Chapter 6 - Mount Huaguo, only seconded by the likes of Supreme Inspector.
Unlike the previous three bosses that you had to defeat in order to obtain parts of the Monkey King's set, the Emerald-Armed Mantis doesn't have any elemental abilities. However, it makes up for its elemental shortcomings with its sheer strength and agility, making it among the most difficult bosses to use the Resolute Counter against.
Thankfully, the boss does have its fair share of weaknesses that you can exploit in order to get an easy victory over it.
This article presents a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat the Emeral-Armed Mantis in Black Myth Wukong.

Tips to easily defeat the Emerald-Armed Mantis in Black Myth Wukong
The Emerald-Armed Mantis is a single-phase boss fight, unlike the Cloudtreading Deer. However, despite having a much lower total HP compared to other bosses in Black Myth Wukong's final chapter, the Emerald-Armed Mantis is comparatively, a much more challenging boss encounter. This is simply due to its aggression and one of its attack combos.
In one of its attacks, the Emerald-Armed Mantis imbues its arms (blades) with blood and spins rapidly while constantly closing the gap between it and the Destined One. This one combo, which consists of more than 8 consecutive hits, not only staggers the Destined One but can also kill him, easily.
Apart from this attack, most of the moveset of the Mantis is fairly easy to predict and counter. Unfortunately, the boss can perform the "blade spin" multiple times during the battle. Thankfully, there's a fairly easy way of avoiding this attack, or even tanking it, if you aren't comfortable with your dodge timings.
Here are some tips that should help you against the Emerald-Armed Mantis in Black Myth Wukong:
- Before you head into the Emerald-Armed boss fight, it's best to equip the Bull King's set alongside the parts of Monkey King's set you've obtained in Chapter 6. Furthermore, unlocking and equipping the Loongwreathe Staff is highly recommended.
- The Mantis is highly susceptible to almost every other elemental affinity, apart from Poison. The best strategy to deal with the boss' most deadly combos is to use either Immobilize followed by a changed-heavy attack, which will stun it for a short duration. Alternatively, you can use the Apramana Bat Spirit to not only immobilize it but also deal Frost damage to it.
- Once you get the boss down to 75% HP, it will become significantly more aggressive.
- Make sure you have a few Mirage Pills handy to refill your Might gauge. The best and most consistent way of avoiding the "blade spin" attack is to use a Transformation Spell, preferably Golden Lining or Red Tides, and dodge/tank through the attack.
- If you run out of Might and feel the need to transform again, use the Mirage Pills to refill your Might gauge. You can also try to Perfect Dodge through the attack, but that can be a bit tricky to pull off, consistently.
- Lastly, for the Stance, go with the Smash Stance, fully upgraded and with all four Focus nodes unlocked. Smash Stance's charged attacks easily stagger the Mantis and even interrupt some of its own attacks.
- Lastly, do not forget to use the Plantain Fan to stagger the Emerald-Armed Mantis, especially in the second part of the boss fight.
The Loongwreathe Staff is one of the most powerful weapons in Black Myth Wukong and is obtained via the Loong questline. However, you can only craft it after defeating Yellow Loong. The Plantain Fan, which is also extremely necessary for this boss fight, is an automatic unlock upon defeating the Yaksha King and finishing Chapter 5 - The Flaming Mountains.
Defeating the Emerald-Armed Mantis rewards you with the final piece of the Monkey King's set - the Dian-Cui Loong-Soaring Braces.
