Metyr, Mother of Fingers is one of the optional and very well-hidden bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Much like the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree expansion is filled with optional encounters that players will only find if they complete certain character quests as well as explore the entirety of the map of the Realm of Shadow.
Locked behind the optional questline involving Ymir, Metyr is easily one of the most visually arresting bosses in the game, akin to Bayle the Dread, Messmer the Impaler, Commander Gaius, and even the final boss, Promised Consort Radahn.
However, don't let the boss' appearance and lack of agility deceive you. Metyr is quite challenging and can kill you in one or two hits if you're not attentive to her attacks. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

How to defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
Metyr, Mother of Fingers is found deep inside the Finger Ruins of Miyr. However, to access the boss fight, you first need to complete Count Ymir's questline, which you start upon first reaching the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. Upon completing the quest, head down to the Cathedral's lower levels, which eventually teleports you to another realm that houses Metyr.
Metry, Mother of Fingers, as her name suggests, is the mother of all the Two Fingers and the Fingercreepers that roam the Lands Between. In terms of her appearance, Metyr is made up of multiple finger-like protrusions that are intertwined to form a creature very much akin to the Fallingstar Beast.
Although not as fast as Astel or the Fallingstar Beasts, Metyr, Mother of Fingers does have access to some incredibly devastating abilities, including an AOE attack that can technically one-shot you if you fail to dodge it. The best way to deal with Metyr is to use a ranged or Bleed build. The Dragon Hunter's Great Katana is a great option against this boss.
Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:
- Make sure you bring some form of non-physical damage negation buff with you, whether it's using the Physick concoction, Talisman, or consumable. Most of Metyr's attacks are non-physical magic-based, as such having high magic defense helps against the boss.
- Metyr, much Astel, Naturalborn of the Void, starts the boss fight with a charged laser-beam, that can immediately reduce your HP to half (even at 60 Vigor). To avoid this, you need to time your dodge or you can tank it with the Opaline Bubbletear Crystal.
- Once you get near Metyr, spam your weapon's ability until you break her poise or she teleports away. Do note that you can inflict Bleed on Metyr, which you can use if you're struggling with the boss.
- Once Metyr starts teleporting and summoning the black orb, run away from her as far as you can. I also recommend playing this boss fight unlocked as the camera can make things worse if you lock onto her.
- Once Metyr transitions to her second phase, she starts using projectiles quite aggressively, which can easily roll-catch you and also deal a lot of damage. This is where the non-physical damage reduction items come into play.
- Metyr also occasionally does a spinning attack that can be easily dodged by rolling twice sideways just before she hits you. You can also use this time to immediately retaliate with your weapon's Ash of War ability.
- Once Metyr comes close to 20%% HP, she will start spamming multiple projectiles toward you alongside a massive AOE slam attack. Keep your distance from the boss until it lands on the ground, and then get close to her hind legs and use charged heavy attacks to break her poise and finish her with a critical attack.
Do note that reposte is dealt to Metyr's head, not her body. Once you defeat Metyr, Mother of Fingers, you will be rewarded with her Remembrance, which can be used to craft two weapons - Staff of Great Beyond and Gazing Finger, which currently happens to be the strongest Strength weapon in Elden Ring, that also scales with Intelligence.
