Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame is easily one of the best boss encounters in Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This is not only because of the challenge the fight offers but also due to the story and mystique behind the character of Midra, and how it connects to what is, without a shadow of a doubt, one of the darkest endings of the base game.

Midra's optional boss status is somewhat underwhelming due to the way the character is introduced. However, if you're brave enough to trek through the Abyssal Woods and make your way to Midra's Manse, you will treated to one of the best boss fights in Elden Ring Shadow of the Edtree.

While Midra might look frail at first glance, the boss is capable of dealing a lot of damage in a very short amount of time, thanks to his ability to use Frenzy.

Here's a comprehensive guide on how to defeat Midra, the Lord of Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Given he's one of the optional boss fights in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, reaching Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame isn't as easy as some of the other main story bosses. However, if you're thorough with your exploration of the Realm of Shadow, you will eventually arrive at the Abyssal Woods, which then organically leads you to Midra's Manse.

Navigating Abyssal Woods is, however, quite terrifying, partly due to the Frenzy-inflicted enemies and also due to the Winter Lantern-like enemies that cannot be killed (not in a traditional way, at least). Once you do brave through the Abyssal Woods, you will reach Midra's Manse, which is a very small legacy dungeon.

At the very center of Midra's Manse, you will find Midra, who first appears as a normal enemy with a minuscule healthbar. However, once you kill him, he transitions into the Remembrance boss following an excellent cutscene that shows how he attempts to become the Lord of Frenzied Flame.

Although Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame might look very intimidating for a boss fight, he's not that difficult to deal with. You can technically "cheese" the boss using a Colossal weapon, charged heavy attacks, and the Blade of Mercy Talisman. Additionally, Midra is incredibly susceptible to Bleed and also Scarlet Rot.

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

  • Midra always starts the boss fight with a gap-closer as soon as he transforms into the Frenzy Lord form. Roll sideways to avoid getting hit. Make sure to not roll more than twice since Midra usually follows the gap-closer with a downward slash that can easily hit you and deal damage.
  • You can also avoid Midra's gap-closer attack by jumping over it. Then, retaliate immediately with a charged heavy attack to break his poise, letting you deal a critical attack.
  • If you're using a heavy weapon with Bleed, something like the Dragon Hunter's Great Katana, you can easily defeat the boss simply by spamming the weapon's Ash of War attack and staying at medium distance.
  • Midra also uses Unending Frenzy and Frenzied Burst attacks occasionally, which inflict a lot of physical damage and also Frenzy. Dodge to avoid these attacks or conversely, you can use a Great Shield to negate their effect (Fingerprint Shield is teh best choice here).
  • Once Midra's health drops below 70%, he summons a giant Frenzy Flame orb that, much like Rellana's Twin Moon, drops to the ground dealing massive amounts of physical damage and inflicting Frenzy. Make sure you have a few Clarifying Boluses handy to negate Frenzy build-up.
  • Most of Midra's attacks are very well-telegraphed but also delayed. As such, don't panic roll whenever you see him start a new combo. Instead, time your dodges according to his attack rhythm.
  • Midra doesn't have too much HP, as such, if you focus on dealing critical hits, it should not take too long to defeat the boss, as long as you keep Frenzy build-up in check.
