The final boss of Shadow of the Erdtree, Promised Consort Radhan, is easily the toughest encounter in the entirety of Elden Ring, far surpassing the likes of Maliketh, Radagon, and even Malenia. Although the base game version of Starscourge Radahn isn't particularly tough, he still posed some challenge, at least for an early to mid-game boss encounter.

However, the DLC version of General Radahn isn't anything to scoff at, especially in his second phase. Naturally, it's the one boss that many players might find themselves struggling to beat, perhaps even more so than Malenia. Although you do have two NPC summons to use against Radahn, they aren't really useful.

If you're having a really bad time with the final boss of Elden Ring's DLC, there are ways to "cheese" him, which still will require a bit of skill and dexterity.

Here's how you can easily defeat Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, including a very potent build recommendation.

Build to use for Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

While you can technically make any build work against the final Remembrance boss of the Elden Ring DLC, I found a build that seems to be the most effective, especially if you're not confident about your dodge timings and parries. While the first phase of the boss fight is manageable, the second is where things get very unpredictable.

As always, we'll want to use Bleed against Radahn since that's very effective regardless of the weapon of choice. However, in addition to Bleed, Radahn is also extremely weak to Scarlet Rot, for obvious reasons. Hence, the build I chose makes use of a very underrated weapon - the Blood Antspur Rapier.

The Antspur Rapier comes with the Scarlet Rot build-up by default, and any other affinity you add to it via Ash of War is an add-on. So, technically, using this weapon, you can get the benefit of both Scarlet Rot and Bleed. Additionally, you want to have a good Great Shield to block physical attacks and projectiles.

For that, I highly recommend the Fingerprint Stone Shield, with the Barricade Shield Ash of War. Also, you would want heavy armor for this boss fight to give you as much poise as possible. The Bull-Goat armor set is a good choice, but I personally recommend Verdigris, which you get from the boss fight right before Radahn.

With all that being said, here's a breakdown of all the build components that I recommend using for the Promised Consort Radahn boss fight in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

Weapons:

  • Blood Antspur Rapier +25 (Blood Tax for Bleed scaling)
  • Fingerprint Stone Shield +25 (Barricade Shield)

Talismans:

  • Erdtree's Favor +2
  • Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman
  • Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom
  • Two-Headed Turtle Talisman

Armor:

  • Verdigris set

Since we won't be using the Ash of War in this boss fight anyway, you can replace the Blood Tax on the Antspur Rapier with any other weapon art of your choice. However, make sure it retains the Bleed scaling. I tested this build on a Level 219 character with the following stats:

  • Vigor: 60
  • Mind: 20
  • Endurance: 42
  • Strength: 50
  • Dexterity: 50 (Goes to 55 with the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom)
  • Intelligence: 12
  • Faith: 14
  • Arcane: 50
The Verdigris set can be replaced with the Bull-Goat set since both of them have similar Poise stat (Image via FromSoftware)

The focus for this build is primarily Strength, Dexterity, and Arcane. You can also replace the Prosthesis-Wearer Heirloom with the Outer God's Heirloom for additional points on Arcane. Additionally, if you have enough points to spare, I highly recommend investing them in Faith to use the Golden Vow Incantation.

Tips to defeat Promises Consort Radahn in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

While the build I mentioned makes it somewhat manageable, the boss fight against Promised Consort Radahn is still one of the most challenging encounters in the entirety of Elden Ring. As such, you still need to be aware of the boss' attacks and how to counter them using your build.

Most of Radhan's attacks are followed up with a massive AOE. Avoiding these AOE attacks can be quite troublesome since they require multiple dodge rolls, usually delayed.

Most of Radahn's attacks, much like in the base game of Elden Ring, are delayed. Since he's using his twin swords, even if you dodge one of his swings, you're bound to get hit by his follow-up swing if you time your rolls wrong.

This issue becomes even more problematic in the second phase, where every single attack Radahn does in the first phase makes a return, but with a multi-hit AOE follow-up, which requires additional dodges. By the time you're done dodging, you usually only get one or maybe two hits on the boss.

Thankfully, the build I mentioned in this article negates most of the physical attacks Radahn does and lets you constantly hit him with the Rapier, inflicting both Bleed and Scarlet Rot at the same time.

Here are some tips that should help you defeat Promised Consort Radahn in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

  • The first thing to note before the final boss fight of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is that you do not want to use summons here. Yes, your Mimic Tear or Tiche summon can help, but if you're going for the tank build, you technically want the boss' attention to yourself.
  • Additionally, if you complete Ansbach and Thiollier's questlines prior to the game's finale, you will be able to summon both of them for this boss fight. However, you really don't want to do that since summoning NPCs adds more points to the already inflated HP of the final boss.
  • Now, once you have your build prepped, your primary strategy will be to block and poke Radahn until you see him inflicted with Scarlet Rot. In the first phase, almost all attacks can be blocked with the Fingerprint Stone Shield, with little to no HP damage.
  • Although you won't be able to dodge roll due to Heavy encumbrance, you still will be able to move around. Whenever you see Radahn fly away in midair, release the block button to recover stamina.
  • I also recommend using the Stamina and HP recovery Cracked Tears to speed up your stamina recovery and get passive HP regen. If you have points to spare, I advise getting your Endurance stat to 50.
  • You can also enchant your Great Shield with Barricade Shield Ash of War for better damage negation, but it's not really needed in the first phase.
  • In the second phase, you want to stick to the same strategy, albeit with one small change - as soon as you see Radahn leap into the air, you want to run as far away from the center of the arena as possible to avoid the massive two-part AOE that even the Fingerprint Shield cannot negate.
  • Thanks to the Scarlet Rot build-up, Radahn should go down quite fast, even without the help from your Mimic Tear summon.

Before you head into the battle with Radahn, I highly recommend taking your time to explore the Shadow Keep since it hides an optional boss - the Scadutree Avatar.

Defeating the Scadutree Avatar gives you Miquella's Great Rune, which comes in handy for Elden Ring DLC's final boss fight.

During the second phase of the battle, Radahn often does a grab attack, which you cannot avoid with your shield. If you get caught by this attack twice, it will end up being an instant death since your Tarnished will get charmed by Miquella.

Using Miquella's Great Rune ahead of the battle makes the Tarnished invulnerable to this attack.
