Scadutree Avatar is one of the optional bosses you can skip in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree if you're not thorough with your exploration. Although finding this boss isn't particularly difficult once you reach the Shadow Keep, navigating through the maze-like catacombs that house the Scadutree Avatar can be a bit confusing and at times, infuriating.

However, if you do make your way to the Scadutree Avatar boss arena, you will be greeted with what is easily one of the best optional boss encounters in the game, only seconded by the likes of Bayle the Dread. The Scadutree Avatar is essentially a giant Shadow Sunflower, that's empowered by Miquella's Great Rune.

Although the boss is quite a spectacle, it's not that challenging, as such, if you have a powerful enough build, you shouldn't have too much trouble defeating it. However, if you do find yourself struggling against the boss, here's a guide on how to easily defeat the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Tips on how to easily defeat the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Scadutree Avatar can be found at the base of the Shadow Keep, which you can access after defeating the Golden Hippopotamus. Although the fight is pretty straightforward and very reminiscent of the Erdtree Avatar enemies you find in the base game of Elden Ring. However, it has significantly more health, and also access to AOE attacks.

The Scadutree Avatar, much like the Erdtree Avatars is very weak to Flame elemental attacks as well as Holy damage. However, it's not that weak to Bleed, which is quite surprising considering Bleed is more or less effective against almost all other bosses in the game.

Thankfully, if you deal enough damage to the boss' head, i.e., the giant Sunflower, it easily gets staggered, allowing you to deal with a critical attack. However, dealing damage to the boss' head, especially with a slow weapon can be quite tricky since it constantly summons barbed thorns that cause Bleed build-up and also deal a ton of damage.

Here are some tips to help you deal with the Scadutree Avatar in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree:

  • The Scadutree Avatar isn't as aggressive as some of the other Remembrance bosses in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. However, most of its attacks do hit pretty hard. Thankfully most of the boss' attacks are easy to avoid, simply by dodging.
  • The battle against the Scadutree Avatar is divided into three phases, the first phase is fairly straightforward, where the boss is usually stationary and only uses a few sets of attacks. Also, in this phase, the Scadutree Avatar takes more damage and can be easily stance-broken with Colossal weapons.
  • The second phase doesn't start until you deplete the entire healthbar of the boss, upon which, the Avatar revives itself and becomes significantly more tanky and aggressive.
  • I used the Ancient Meteoric Ore Greatsword, which made it pretty easy to stagger the boss thanks to its Ash of War White Light Charge.
  • The first phase is quite easy. However, once the boss enters the second phase, you need to be very careful not to step into the barbed thorns attack. You must rely heavily on dodging in this phase and only retaliate when either the boss lowers its head or it's stationary.
  • You can also try to stick close to its lower body, which can also be locked on to, and deal constant damage to it via light and heavy attacks. However, doing so comes at the risk of being left vulnerable when the boss decides to move away from its position.
  • Once you deplete the second healthbar, the Scadutree Avatar will revive once again, for the last time, but with much lower defense and total HP. This phase is just an endurance run, where if you're not out of healing flasks, should not be too difficult to manage.

Defeating the Scadutree Avatar rewards you with the boss' Remembrance as well as 260,000 Runes. The Remembrance can be used to craft either the Shadow Sunflower Blossom melee weapon, or the Land of Shadow Incantation, both of which are excellent choices for Elden Ring's PvP and invasions, but are very limited in terms of PvE usage.
