The Stone Monkey is technically the final boss of Black Myth Wukong, albeit just the first phase of the entire battle. Essentially, the Stone Monkey is the leftover husk of the Great Sage - Sun Wukong, devoid of all his senses and memories, but retaining his unmatched strength and agility. As the game's final boss, the Stone Monkey is incredibly challenging.

Although the Stone Monkey only constitutes the first two phases of the final encounter against the Great Sage, he still poses quite a challenge, far surpassing most main story bosses in terms of difficulty. Most of the boss' moves are derived from the skills available in the Azure Dome Transformation Spell.

However, the Stone Monkey also has some unique abilities that the Destined One doesn't have access to, even in his Azure Dome Transformation. These moves not only deal a ton of damage but can also blindside you if you fail to dodge them in time. Here's a comprehensive guide on how to easily defeat the Stone Monkey in Black Myth Wukong.

The battle against the Stone Monkey is divided into two phases, with the first phase being easy and the subsequent phase being significantly more challenging. Thankfully, the Stone Monkey doesn't have too many attacks to keep track of, only a few elemental AOEs that can be lethal if not dodged in time.

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat the Stone Monkey in Black Myth Wukong:

  • In its first phase, the Stone Monkey primarily has two main attacks that it cycles through. The first is a multi-hit slash attack, which combos into a grab. And the second is a lunge, which also combos into a grab, or finished with an AOE.
  • Both these attacks are quite easy to dodge, either with Perfect Dodges or sprinting away. That said, both these attacks are telegraphed with a rather long wind-up animation, which is pretty easy to read.
  • The first phase, especially with the Jingubang and the full Monkey King's set equipped is more or less a cakewalk. The Stone Monkey's defenses in the first phase are quite low and the bonus damage of the Monkey King's set deals a ton of damage to the boss with combo finishers.
  • The second phase is more or less identical to the first phase, save for the Stone Monkey's ability to use elemental affinities.
  • In the second phase, the boss gains the ability to use Fire and Frost elemental abilities, both of which he uses with an AOE. Furthermore, halfway through the second phase, the boss summons a clone, which can be a bit tricky to deal with.
  • The Frost AOE attack is easy to dodge as it covers a rather small radius around the Stone Monkey. However, if you're hit by the AOE, it results in an immediate Frost build-up, leaving the Destined One immobilized for a short duration.
  • The Fire AOE, on the other hand, is a bit difficult to dodge as it covers a wider area and follows a wavelike structure. The Fire AOE is quite similar to the Lightning AOE attack used by the Black Loong optional boss.
  • The best way to counter the elemental attacks is Pillar Stance and Perfect Dodge. Furthermore, the Thrust Stance also helps a ton with dealing damage to the boss from a distance.
  • The trick to beating the Stone Monkey lies in the proper use of Perfect Dodges and the Stance abilities at your disposal.

While the transition from Stone Monkey to Great Sage's Broken Shell is seamless, you do get a checkpoint between the two different phases.
