How to find the Machete in The Forest

If you’re exploring the dangerous, chaotic world of The Forest and want to add a machete to your survival kit, you’re in for a bit of a challenge that's absolutely worth the effort. This fast-swinging blade requires over 17 hits to chop down trees and was introduced in update v0.63. Here are the easiest ways to get the weapon and what you’ll need to prepare for the journey.

Finding the Machete in The Forest

The machete at the nose of a crashed plane at the bottom of the giant sinkhole in the middle of the map. You can’t miss it — it’s dead center surrounded by cliffs. There are two ways to get down there: the hard way (caves) or the easy way (zipline). Either way, you’ll need preparation because the area is crawling with mutants and enemies.

2) Preparing for the Journey

Before heading out, make sure you’re fully geared up with these:

• Climbing Axe
• Plenty of rope
• Dynamite
• Food rations
• Armor

This trek isn’t a stroll in the woods. You’ll face mutants like Armsies, Cowmen, and regular enemies. Be ready to fight or sneak your way through.

3) Building the Zipline

The easiest way to get to the machete is by building a zipline across the sinkhole. Here’s how:

Choose the high and low points of the sinkhole. Use the cliff edges to set up the zipline.

Gather these materials to make the zipline:

• 10 logs (chop a few trees).
• 14 ropes, which can be tricky. You can find rope in cannibal villages or craft it using cloth. Stock up on cloth beforehand for quick crafting.

Build the zipline and head back to the top of the sinkhole. Once your zipline is ready, ride it across the chasm. When you’re about halfway, let go (press spacebar or your platform’s equivalent) and aim for the water in the middle of the sinkhole. If timed well, you’ll land safely without taking fall damage.

5) Navigating the Danger below

After landing, things get serious. Mutants roam the area, including Armsies and other mutants. Stick to the left of the Bullman, sneaking past to avoid detection. Climb over the rocks, keeping an eye out for enemies. The machete is at the cockpit of the crashed helicopter.

Once you grab it, you’ve got a sleek, fast weapon to add to your kit. But the journey isn’t over yet, you’ll need to fight or sneak your way out.

6) Escaping the Sinkhole

To leave, you’ll need the Climbing Axe and Rebreather in The Forest. Unlike the entrance, the exit involves navigating a cave system with multiple doors. Follow any path leading upward to return to the surface.
