The cores gave the British Empire a great advantage. This technology was later adapted by the United States government. However, when the Great Frost hit the world, all the blueprints and other information regarding the creation of the cores were lost, which is why they are very rare in the new world.
How to get more Cores in Frostpunk 2
To acquire Cores in Frostpunk 2, you'll need to explore the frostland, a vast area outside your city. Early in the game, as you're building housing, extraction, and industrial districts, be sure to frostbreak (clear frost) your way toward the city's edge. There, you'll discover locations where you can place logistic districts.

Each logistic district you build unlocks a frostland team that you can send to explore the map. Additionally, you can increase the number of available teams by upgrading logistic districts with Scout Headquarters. The sooner you build and upgrade these, the faster you can start gathering crucial resources.
Once you've established frostland teams, you can start exploring the various nodes on the frostland map. Clicking on a node will reveal information about what you might find, such as coal, prefabs, people, or steam cores. Look for blue icons indicating potential resources, and if a core is present, the icon will resemble a small lantern.
You can also hover over it to confirm. When you've found a promising node, send out an expedition. As expeditions take time, it's important to manage your city and resources while your teams are out in the frostland.
Cores are rare and are usually found in small amounts—typically just one or two per node. Once your expedition reaches the destination, the node will reveal if your team will find any cores or not.
What are Cores used for in Frostpunk 2?
Cores in Frostpunk 2 are mainly used to manufacture advanced buildings and automation. They are also used in manufacturing some advanced resources. However, be cautious while using them. Due to their scarcity, they are extremely valuable, and if not used thoughtfully, you will end up with nothing when you need them the most.
