How to unlock the Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2
To unlock the Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2, first research Generator Upgrade, and then the Melting Deep Deposits in the Idea Tree. However, keep in mind that if you are playing the Story mode, this option will not be available until Chapter Two.
You will also need to Defeat the Frost to unlock this option. If you choose to Embrace the Frost, you will not be able to research Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2 for the remainder of your playthrough. Although this seems unfair, it's part of how the storyline plays out based on your choices. So, if you want access to this technology, you will have to adhere to the aforementioned path.
How to build the Deep Melting Drill in Frostpunk 2
Once you've Defeated the Frost and researched the Melting Deep Deposits, you can build a Deep Melting Drill. To begin, you'll need to locate a Deep Deposit, which will have a small infinity symbol next to it. If you haven't found one yet, you might need to do a bit of Frostbreaking.
Once found, build a District on top of it. After it's done, you can now build a Deep Melting Drill within the District. It will cost 80 Heatstamps, 40 Prefabs, and a singular Core. To operate the Deep Melting Drill, you'll need a Workforce of 300, along with 60 Materials for its upkeep.
Lastly, keep in mind that the Deep Melting Drill will increase Squalor as well. Be sure to have countermeasures in place to decrease Squalor as much as possible.
