The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is chock-full of small optional questlines and activities you can engage in while taking a break from the bombastic main story quests. The optional questlines can range from simple collectible hunts to full-fledged character quests that yield unique rewards. One such optional activity is unlocking and managing your own farm in Hyrule.
In the previous game, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, completing a certain optional questline allowed you to get your very own house, which, much like in Nintendo's Animal Crossing games, you can fully customize. However, with the sequel, Nintendo further fleshed out the house-building and customization system by adding farming into the mix.
Here's a comprehensive guide on how to create and own your own farm in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom.

How to unlock and manage your very own farm in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
To get your own house and farm in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, you need to travel to Terry Town and talk to certain characters to start a quest that will ultimately lead you to own a property in Hyrule. Terry Town is located in the northern part of Hyrule, near the Akkala Highlands.
Once you reach Terry Town, you must talk to two characters to start an optional questline.
The questline named "Mattison's Independence" is the one that leads you to get a house and farmland in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. After you complete the rather short but heartwarming questline, you can buy your own house for 1500 Rupees by talking to Rhodson in Terry Town.
Once you unlock your house, head towards Hateno Village to start another questline, "Teach Me a Lesson." In this quest, you must collect three rare ingredients to craft the Monster Curry recipe. The ingredients are:
- Goron Spice: You can get Goron Spice at Goron Village.
- Monster Extract: You can collect Monster Extract from the vendor at Terry Town.
- Hylian Rice: You will get Hylian Rice automatically by initiating the quest and completing its first part, which involves taking a picture at Kakariko Village and taking it back to the local school in Hateno Village.
Once you collect all the necessary ingredients, all you need to do is find a cooking pot and throw the ingredients in to create the Monster Curry. Once you have the Monster Curry, return to the school in Hateno Village to conclude the questline and unlock the farmland. In your newly unlocked farm, you can easily harvest rare ingredients without farming them in the open world.
The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
