Obtaining an Ostrich Egg in Stardew Valley is one of the most profitable ways to make money. However, finding it can be a bit of a challenge. The best and guaranteed way to find an Ostrich Egg in Stardew Valley is by solving the Journal Scrap #10. Journal Scaps are collectible pieces that are found on Ginger Island. Just like Secret Notes, they contain crucial information like clues to puzzles, secret quests, and locations of hidden treasure items on the island.
These notes appear randomly while killing mobs, cutting trees, opening chests, or exploring the dungeons. Once you obtain Journal Scrap #10, head outside the Volcano Dungeon and use the hoe next to the J-shaped palm tree to dig up an Ostrich Egg.
Do note that directly going to the mentioned location without the Journal Scrap #10 in your inventory will not yield the egg, as you will simply be unable to dig the spot.
2) Exploring Volcano Dungeon
The second method requires you to explore the Volcano Dungeon. This is located north of Ginger Island and can be accessed through a cave on the south side of the Volcano.
You can obtain an Ostrich Egg by searching for the Rare Treasure Chest in the Volcano Dungeon. These chests are already difficult to come by, and even if you find one, there’s only an 11% chance for an Ostrich Egg to appear inside one.
Moreover, the dungeon is filled with high-level monsters that require proper preparation and upgraded weapons, making this method difficult for new Stardew Valley players.
How to hatch an Ostrich Egg in Stardew Valley
Place an egg inside the incubator and wait for nine days to obtain an Ostrich. After hatching, the creature takes a week to mature and lays an egg once a week after maturity. If you don't have an incubator, you can get its recipe by completing Dr. Snail’s surveys and then donating every fossil at the Island Field Office.
Hatching at least three to four Ostriches is recommended, as it will ensure you have enough supply to craft recipes, make Artisan Goods, or for selling.
Ostriches and their eggs are quite valuable and can serve as a great form of passive income. You can sell the Ostrich itself for a maximum value of 20,800g while the eggs can be sold at the following prices:
- Normal quality - 600g
- Silver Star quality - 750g
- Gold Star quality - 900g
- Iridium Star quality -1,200g
