Red Cabbage in Stardew Valley is a vegetable crop that grows from Red Cabbage Seeds after nine days. The seeds are only available from Year 2 onwards so you must already be a fair bit into the game to obtain these. That said, there is a way to get Red Cabbage in Year 1 as well, but it requires a fair bit of luck and grinding.

The crop is one of the requirements for finishing the Community Center Bundles and can also be requested by the townsfolk in the “Help Wanted” board outside of Pierre’s General Store. So, if you’re having trouble locating this crop, this guide will walk you through getting Red Cabbage in Stardew Valley.

If you’re past Year 2 in your Stardew Valley journey, you only need to head to Pierre’s General Store in Pelican Town, where you can purchase Red Cabbage Seeds for 100 gold.

Additionally, the Night Shop Boat also sells Red Cabbage Seeds for 100g during the Night Market Event on Winter 16.

2) Traveling Merchant

Visit Traveling Cart regularly on Friday and Sunday in the Cindersap Forest for a random chance of the merchant selling Red Cabbage Seeds from 150g to 1000g.

Alternatively, there is a guaranteed way to get Red Cabbage in Year 1 from the Traveling Cart. However, this will require you to start a fresh save file. Simply click New Game and select the settings to find a setting called “Guarantee Year 1 Completable”. Enable it to guarantee Red Cabbage as one of the items in the Traveling Merchant’s inventory during Year 1.

3) Skull Cavern

There is a 0.125% to 0.2% chance of obtaining the seeds by slaying Mummies, Serpents, and Purple Slimes. You can also look into Treasure Rooms in the Skull Cavern for a 1% chance of finding the seeds.

That said, the chance of finding Red Cabbage in Stardew Valley from Skull Cavern monsters and Treasure Chests is quite low, and depending on this method is not advised.

After getting the seeds, simply plant them on your farm and wait for nine days to obtain Red Cabbage. You can use it in the following ways:

  • Sell at any merchant to obtain 260 to 572 gold.
  • Submit one unit to the Dye Bundle at the Community Center to complete the bundle.
  • Complete NPC’s request on the “Help Wanted” board outside Pierre’s General Store for a reward of 780g and 150 friendship points.
  • Gift for Stardew Valley love interests except for Abigail, Haley, Jas, Sam, and Vincent.
  • Can be used in the Sewing Machine to create the dyeable Tank Top.
  • For cooking Coleslaw, Fish Taco, and Red Plate.

Overall, obtaining Red Cabbage during Year 2 is much more efficient. So if you're not in a rush, it's better to wait before going for this crop.
