Woodskip in Stardew Valley is a freshwater fish that can be caught during any season. It is moderately difficult to catch at low fishing levels due to its erratic behavior when hooked. However, there are various ways to acquire Woodskip in the game. The fish is a requirement for completing the Community Center Bundles and some quests, making it a must-have for finishing the main story of Stardew Valley.
So, if you’re struggling to obtain this fish for a recipe or a quest, this guide will walk you through different ways to get Woodskip in Stardew Valley.

The most common way to acquire Woodskip in Stardew Valley is to fish in the Secret Woods area. This area can be accessed either by heading to the northwest corner of Cindersap Forest or by going northwest from the Wizard Tower.
Alternatively, if you’re playing on the Forest Farm layout, you have a 0% to 17.5% chance to hook one by fishing in water ponds on your farmland.
Unlike many fish in the game, Woodskips can be caught regardless of the season or the time of the day. Simply cast your fishing rod once in the area and you will have a 15-27% to encounter one. You can also increase your odds by aiming for the deep water (denoted by darker shade) and using a higher quality fishing rod.
2) Purchase from Traveling Cart
The Traveling Cart can be found in the Cindersap Forest every Friday and Sunday, offering a random selection of items to purchase. There is a random chance to find Woodskip as one of the available items in Traveling Cart’s inventory. Its price can fluctuate between 225 gold and 1000 gold.
This method relies heavily on luck but you can check Traveling Cart while on your way to Secret Woods to increase your chances of getting Woodskip in Stardew Valley.
3) Using Magic Bait
If you’re having a hard time catching Woodskips, Magic Bait can help. This bait can be crafted after reaching Fishing Level 7 and can be used to catch any fish in the game regardless of season, time, or weather conditions.
It’s an efficient way to target hard-to-catch fish like Woodskip. However, the Magic Bait requires rare ingredients like Coral and Void Essence to craft, which may not be available if you’re still in the early game.
