A guide on how to heal in The Forest

The Forest is an open-world survival game with horror elements. There are as many ways of recovering health as losing it in the vast, mysterious, merciless, and brutal peninsula featured in the game. You can get hurt by falling from a high ground, or suffer from excessive hunger or thirst.

That said, these are the various ways in which you can heal yourself in The Forest:

Medicines

Medicines can be one of the fastest and most effective ways to heal in The Forest. But they can also be one of the rarest items to find in the game. Due to their advanced compositions, these meds can only be found in places with human populations, such as the plane-wreck site, suitcases, caves, cannibal villages, etc. Press "E" on your keyboard to add medicines to your inventory, and then consume them to heal in The Forest.

Fresh meat

Things start to get primal from here on out. If meds are not available, then another good source of healing is hunting animals in the game and consuming their meat. You can hunt deer, crocodiles, tortoises, turtles, boar, or raccoons. Once you've removed the meat from the corpse, you'll need to cook it on a fire.

To create a fire, open your crafting book/menu, go to the fire tab, click on the type of fire you want, place it on the ground, put the materials required in the structure, and then use your lighter to start the fire.

Note that eating raw meat will result in you getting food poisoning; thus, only eat cooked fresh meat to heal in The Forest.

Herbs

Another source of healing materials in the survival game can be found in plants. You can pick out Coneflower and Aloe Vera plants from the ground and eat them directly to gain some health. Add them to your inventory and click on them later to consume them when you're low on health. You can also plant Coneflower and Aloe Vera seeds in a fertile ground at your base to grow the respective plants.

Craft herbal meds

You also have the ability to combine herbs to create herbal medicine in The Forest. There are a total of four herbs in the game that you can use to create herbal medicines, energy mixes, and stews:

  • Aloe Vera
  • Coneflower
  • Chicory
  • Marigold

There are two types of herbal medicines you can craft. They are:

Herbal Medicine:

  • Marigold x1
  • Aloe Vera x1

Herbal Medicine+:

  • Aloe Vera x1
  • Marigold x1
  • Coneflower x1

To create these medicines, open up your inventory, then left-click on the plants to add them to the center. Once all the ingredients are in the center, click on the gear icon to craft the herbal medicine.
