It's no news that the FPS in Off The Grid can be horrible at times, even with the best hardware. The game is currently in its Early Access stage and appears to suffer frequently from massive stutters, FPS drops, poor frame timings, and more. It seems like the game currently lacks optimization and this is causing the frame rate to be all over the place. While these issues might get fixed by the time the shooter is ready for its final release, the experience isn't the best at the time of writing.

Fortunately, you can implement a few in-game tweaks and make a handful of changes to your system that can improve your overall experience. Read on to learn how you can increase FPS in Off The Grid.

Update your GPU drivers

Doesn't matter which GPU you use, be it Nvidia, AMD, or Intel, it is recommended to update to the latest drivers. Although this will not drastically improve your in-game FPS, it will certainly help smoothen out the frame time graph. Moreover, it should rid of the constant stutters that can sometimes make the game unplayable.

Apart from changing the graphics settings, you can also gain a significant amount of FPS in Off The Grid by tweaking the game's config file. However, this will result in a poor graphical presentation. That said, it won't affect the visibility of targets at all. Here's where you'll find the config file:

  • Go to C:\Users\yourusername\Saved Games
  • Locate the folder OTG.
  • Find the file GzGameUserSettings.json
  • Right-click on it and select open with Notepad (Notepad ++ preferred)

In this file, you'll see a bunch of parameters that might be overwhelming at first. However, you only need to change a few settings for the best results. Make sure you backup the file first in case you are not happy with the results after the tweaks.

Find the following lines and tweak them as mentioned below:

  • "viewDistanceQuality": 0,
  • "antiAliasingQuality": 0,
  • "textureQuality": 0,
  • "shadowQuality": 0,
  • "effectsQuality": 0,
  • "globalIlluminationQuality": 0,
  • "reflectionQuality": 0,
  • "postProcessQuality": 0,
  • "foliageQuality": 0,
  • "shadingQuality": 0,
  • "resolutionScaleValue": 0,
  • "antiAliasingMethod": 0,
  • "dLSSMode": 0,
  • "fSRQualityMode": 0,
  • "hideoutMeshMinLODQuality": 0,
  • "gameMeshMinLODQuality": 0,

After making the changes, save the file on your system. Next, right-click on the file and go to Properties. Under the General tab, change the Attributes to Read-only. Then, click Apply and you are done.
