Leveling up your protagonist and party is an important part of any RPG, and the same goes for Metaphor ReFantazio. It comes with a fair share of benefits, like an increase in your combat prowess, mana, and HP. Leveling up in Metaphor ReFantazio typically works like any SMT or Persona game but with a few new additions. Besides leveling up your team, you must also level up the Archetypes.

Archetypes gain access to more advanced skills after you level them up. Some require a certain level from other Archetypes to be unlocked. Leveling them up can be a bit taxing if you don’t know how to do so.

A few tips to quickly level up in Metaphor ReFantazio

Turn the game difficulty to Easy

There is no shame in using the Easy difficulty while farming for XP. This gives you more XP than Normal or Hard. You can clear the dungeon bosses with Easy difficulty and challenge the ones in the main story with the hardest one.

If you want to change the difficulty later, do not select the Storyteller mode. That will give you significantly more XP but lock you out of the ability to change difficulty.

Also, be sure to use the Mage Archetype in overworld combat as it will give you access to an AoE attack that makes farming significantly easier.

Unlike your typical RPG, completing quests does not give you XP. However, certain missions unlock dungeons where you can go and defeat enemies. Defeating enemies is the best way to level up quickly. Bounties in Metaphor ReFantazio are also a sure-shot way to unlock new dungeons where you can go and defeat enemies to level up.

During story quests, you will also come across certain enemies that will spawn indefinitely. Make sure to farm them as much as possible to level up quickly.

It is generally recommended that you equip the archetypes you are looking forward to leveling up when defeating normal mobs in dungeons. Make sure to change them to your powerful ones when you come to the room containing the boss (Indicated by a save point right before the room).

You can also buy XP seed from certain places on the map. Use these seeds in the Gauntlet Runner’s cultivation pod, which you can harvest later to get Hero's Jewelled Root that gives 3,000 Archetype XP.

You can also farm Hero's Leaf of Light by keeping the same Archetype for your party. This item gives around 1000 A-XP and is a sure short way to level up archetypes without swapping often.
