After years of anticipation, fans finally received a major update in Satisfactory a few days ago. While the first-person factory simulation title introduces several interesting mechanics that you can use to build your dream factory, transportation remains an essential element.

The fastest way to transport material from one place to another is by using trains. However, it is not available from the start. Trains are an excellent mode for transporting goods in Satisfactory. Being one of the fastest ground vehicles to date, it helps you transport a large amount of items in a very short time. Although you can unlock trains after reaching Tier 6, you need to set up Oil Processing first. On top of that, you need enough heavy modular frames and motors to build a locomotive.

To create a railway track, players need steel beams and pipes. You can make a segment of it up to 100 meters long. To make railway tracks, you need to:

  • Go to the build menu and select the railway track.
  • Choose a starting point for your track and then drag the track's hologram to your desired endpoint.

Make sure to leave always enough room for turns. You can lay tracks on even uneven terrains as well.

Pathfinding

Finding the right path for your railway network is also an essential element of having a successful transportation medium. You need to ensure that there are no stations in your mainline or you will be charged with a 2000 tile penalty. The trains have an autopilot mode, meaning they will always take the shortest route possible between two destinations if you have selected the right path.

In order to avoid collisions, you have to branch off the stations from the mainline. Make sure to use dual one-way tracks to eliminate the chances of train accidents.

You must set up stops from where your train will pick up goods for transportation. To make train stops, do the following:

  • Place a train station at both ends of your railway network.
  • Connect the starting and ending points using railway tracks as discussed above.
  • Ensure to provide power to connect the stations.

Freight stations are also essential elements of a railway network in Satisfactory. Configure the freight stations for loading and unloading resources. Make sure to connect conveyors from your factories as well.

To set up a locomotive for your railway track, you need to go to the build menu, select locomotive, and place it on the railway tracks. After this, attach freight cars behind the locomotive to set up your transportation route. Assign the train stations with "Load" and "Unload" commands, based on the purpose of your train station.

After successfully configuring everything, your train will automatically load and unload goods, making your transportation system efficient.
