How to obtain the Black Steel Greathammer in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Black Steel Greathammer is one of the most powerful weapons that you can obtain in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. Surprisingly enough, the Greathammer can be obtained pretty early in the game, even before you set foot in Belurat Castle, and defeat the first Remembrance boss of the expansion, the Divine Beast Dancing Lion.

That said, much like any other weapon and combat gear in Elden Ring, the Black Steel Greathammer is completely missable if you're not thorough with your exploration. While you'd think that the weapon would be a random drop from the Black Knights that are found roaming the Gravesite Plains and Scadu Altus, that's not the case.

Instead, the Greathammer is obtained by defeating a specific elite enemy in one of the optional areas of the Shadow Realm.

Where to find the Black Steel Greathammer in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?

The Black Steel Greathammer is found in the Church of Consolation, which is situated at the easternmost extreme of the Gravesite Plains, past the small forested area. The Church of Consolation can be accessed as soon as you step into the Shadow Realm, starting from the very first Site of Grace, or the Scorched Ruins Site of Grace.

The Greathammer is a guaranteed drop from the Black Knight guarding the Church. Although you will find numerous other Black Knights wielding the weapon in the Shadow Realm, you can only get their armor pieces from them, not their weapons.

The first thing to do when you step foot into the Shadow Realm is to get the map of the Gravesite Plains. After you grab the map, put a marker on the small "church-like" structure to the right, and simply follow the road leading to it, starting from the Gravesite Plains Site of Grace. You will eventually reach a forested area, where you might find Logur.

Defeating Logur will reward you with the Beast Claw weapon, which is one of the 8 new weapon types added to Elden Ring with the DLC. Following the path leading through the forest, you will eventually reach the Church of Consolation. Do note that the road to the Church is filled with Messmer's Soldiers resting.

I highly recommend taking all the soldiers out before you fight the Black Knight, to avoid getting overwhelmed by all the enemies at the same time. As you head inside the Church, you will chased by the Black Knight guarding it. Defeat the Black Knight to get the Black Steel Greathammer, as well as the 2 Scadutree Fragments, inside the Church.
