The Black Steel Greatshield is easily one of the coolest-looking shields in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. While the "coolness" factor is certainly what makes it worth picking up, there's another reason why you would not want to miss out on this Greatshield. That is its Holy damage resistance, which surprisingly goes up to 100.0 with upgrades and Ash of War.
Much like the Black Steel Greathammer, the Black Steel Greatsheild can be obtained fairly early in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. The Greatshield is obtained after defeating Black Knight Garrew, an optional dungeon boss, who you can completely miss if you're not thorough with your exploration of Scadu Altus.
Here's a comprehensive guide on how to obtain the Black Steel Greatshield in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.

Where to find the Black Steel Greatshield in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree?
The Black Steel Greatshield is found at the Fog Rift Fort, west of the Highroad Cross Site of Grace. However, to reach the Fog Rift Fort, you first need to get to Scadu Altus, which can only be done once you defeat Rallana, Twin Moon Knight. Once you arrive at Scadu Altus, make for the western part of the map, past a small forested area.
You will find the Scadu Altus, West Site of Grace, which is the checkpoint to reach the Fog Rift Fort. From the Site of Grace, head a bit to the north and you will find a path leading down to the Fort's edge. Carefully make your way down to the Fort's outer wall and proceed until you reach its entrance.
You will be ambushed by groups of Messmer's Soldiers along the way. I highly recommend taking them down before you proceed further into the Fort. Once you arrive at the Fort's entrance, you will come face-to-face with Black Knight Garrew, the boss of the Fort. Defeating the Black Knight rewards you with the Black Steel Greatshield.
You can explore the Fog Rift Fort further to find another unique weapon, i.e., the Serpent Flail. The Black Steel Greatshield, apart from being an incredibly robust option to defend against physical attacks, is also the only shield in the game that can completely negate all Holy damage, making it a fantastic choice for the final boss fight of the DLC.
If upgraded to +25 and paired with a Holy Ash of War, as well as the Golden Braid and Pearldrake Talisman +3, you can technically power through most of the boss' attacks, including the massive AOEs. Additionally, the Black Steel Greatshield is very light compared to other Greatshields, making it a perfect fit for Quality builds.
