Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, much like the base game, is filled with optional areas that you can only access upon meeting certain requirements. Just like the Consecrated Snowfield and Miquella's Haligtree in the base game, there's an optional area in Shadow of the Erdtree that you can reach only if you obtain a special item, in this case - the O Mother gesture.

The catch is that the O Mother gesture itself is tucked away in another optional area, which you will only stumble upon if you explore the Scadu Altus region thoroughly. You essentially need to make your way to Bonny Village to get this special gesture.

Where to find the O Mother gesture in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The O Mother gesture is found in the Bonny Village, a small optional region close to the Church District and the Cathedral of Manus Metyr. The gesture isn't hidden inside any dungeon or locked behind a boss fight; instead, it can be picked up from a corpse near the village's exit. However, the challenge here is to find Bonny Village in the first place.

Admittedly, the Bonny Village can be quite tricky to find, since the path leading to it doesn't show up on the map. To get to the Bonny Village, you first need to make your way to the Moorth Ruins. To get there, you must first defeat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, and reach Scadu Altus.

Once you arrive at Scadu Altus, simply head to the eastern part of the region to arrive at the Moorth Ruins. From the Moorth Ruins, you need to head a bit toward the northwest to reach a small chasm past the ruined cathedral. Head down the chasm carefully, and past the Inquisitor enemies to reach a wooden ladder that takes you to the exit.

Climb the wooden ladder and you will exit at the Bonny Village. Once you reach Bonny Village, simply head north until you reach a broken bridge. Using Torrent, jump past the broken bridge and you will find a small area to the left with a few enemies around it.

Head to that area and that is where you will find a corpse embedded in a tree grasping the O Mother gesture. Once you have the gesture, head to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate Site of Grace, and before you head to the boss fight against Commander Gaius, take a right towards the statue of Marika. Near the statue, use the O Mother gesture to unlock the passage to the Hinterland.
