How to obtain the Rock Heart in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The Rock Heart is easily one of the most well-hidden secrets in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. While the consumable isn't anything special compared to the Priestess Heart, it is still something that you don't want to miss out on, especially if you're planning to make a Dragon Communion Incantation-focused build.

Much like the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree has a host of secrets in every single corner of its map. Most of this DLC's hidden items can be found simply by exploring its open world or by completing dungeons in it. However, getting some of them may require a bit more thought and creativity. The Rock Heart can only be obtained if you pay close attention to the clues leading to it.

Where to find the Rock Heart in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Acquiring the hidden item in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is a two-step process. You first need to obtain a hidden painting that depicts the location where you can get the Rock Heart. Then, you need to visit the area shown in the painting. While picking up the painting is the easy part of the process, locating the specific place shown in it can be quite an arduous task.

You can get the painting from the hidden compartment below the first floor in Shadow Keep. However, it should be noted that to reach this dungeon, you first need to get access to Scadu Altus. This can be done by going through Castle Ensis and defeating Rellana, Twin Moon Knight.

Once you reach Scadu Altus and the Highroad Cross Site of Grace, head north past the Messmer's Soldier encampment and also the Furnace Golem to reach the entrance of Shadow Keep. Now, you will need to defeat the Golden Hippopotamus boss. Only after beating this entity can you enter the Shadow Keep castle.

Once you reach its first floor, instead of heading towards the Storehouse, First Floor Site of Grace, you will need to go down into the castle's antechamber. To do so, you need to reach the alleyway at the end of the first floor. Where this path ends, instead of heading left towards the Fire Knight, move forward, and you will find a ladder to your left.

After reaching the lower part of the castle using it, enter the small alley past the waterfall, and you will reach a secret room with the painting. Grab the item and hit the illusory wall adjacent to it. The path that's revealed leads to the Ruins of Ante, which then takes you to the Ellac River downstream and, subsequently, the Darklight Catacombs.

Now, you need to head straight to the Jagged Peak Mountains. Right before you engage in the boss fight against Bayle the Dread, you will get the Rock Heart. After the Jagged Peak Mountainside Site of Grace, head towards the west until you reach a Spiritspring. Use the spring to reach the platform above.

Once you do that, go left a bit and drop down to the ledge below. Now, you will find a small elevation to the right, which is where you need to go to get the Rock Heart. With the painting in your possession, you will see a spectral NPC appear at the edge of that platform. After it disappears, you can pick up the Rock Heart.
