HoYoverse has added a bunch of currencies in Zenless Zone Zero, ranging from limited ones like Polychromes to more perpetual tokens like the Z-Merits. You can use the latter to purchase some necessary supplies from an in-game vendor. But first, you have to collect the tokens from sources allocated by the Hollow Investigation Association.

To be precise, the Z-Merits in ZZZ are dropped exclusively from the Hollow Zero. Simply participate in an investigation from the domain and get a set amount of this token alongside other rewards.

The Hollow Zero in Zenless Zone Zero is a roguelike challenge that can be tagged as one of the end-game activities. It is somewhat similar to the Simulated Universe from Honkai Star Rail. You can pick up various buffs throughout the investigation and defeat enemies at different nodes.

There will be a boss waiting at the end, and that will be set to a higher difficulty. With a proper team composition and assortment of buffs, you should be able to defeat them and snag some Z-Merits.

You can unlock the Hollow Zero game mode via story progression, right after the Cat's Lost and Found Chapter 1 quest.
