How to restore MP in Metaphor ReFantazio

Not long into the early hours of Metaphor ReFantazio, players will quickly really that MP is an important element of combat. Much like developer ATLUS' other JRPG offerings, such as Persona 5, this is the driving force behind the player's access to magic attacks and spells, which are powerful and can turn the tide of battle. That said, MP is also a limited resource.

As such, on top of knowing how to manage and conserve it efficiently, knowing how to recover MP is key to surviving fights. After all, Metaphor ReFantazio is arguably the most challenging ATLUS game in recent memory.

While the game does feature a few ways to restore MP, it should be noted that there is no cost-free method to fully restore MP. This is in contrast to other JRPGs, such as Pokemon with its Pokemon Centers or the occasional vending machines in Yakuza Like A Dragon.

That said, the main method of recovering MP in Metaphor ReFantazio will be by using consumables. Here are the relevant ones:

• Magla Pill: Restores 20 MP to one ally
• Fruit Cordial: Restores 30 MP to one ally
• Magla Potion: Restores 50 MP to one ally

These items can be used in battle at the cost of a turn or outside combat via the menu. They can be found via exploration or purchased from vendors. However, they are both rare and relatively expensive, especially early on, so it is best to conserve them.

The game does feature a Rest Area for players to take a break and save the game, but bizarrely, it does not restore HP or MP. Players can exit a dungeon for the day which restores MP to full but this is not a feasible method in the long run if they wish to clear it in one go. The more convenient way is taking advantage of the Archetypes.

There are over 40 Archetypes and the Mage Archetype is one that will be unlocked early in the campaign. As players level it up, the Mage Archetype will learn the passive skill "Magic Recovery", which will recover MP every time an enemy in the overworld is stunned or defeated. If some MP conservation is maintained in combat, relying on this skill to restore magic should be feasible to an extent.

Progressing further into the story unlocks some more effective measures for MP recovery in Metaphor ReFantazio. This includes new Passives for Archetypes, such as the Masked Dancer, as well as equipable items like Crescent Moon, both of which restore moderate amounts of MP every turn in combat.
